The Liverpool Smoothie Tour: The Results

This week we took to the city streets on the Liverpool Smoothie Tour because we really need to stop eating the left over Christmas sweets!

January is always a busy month for the gyms and health food shops as more of us attempt to stick to new year resolutions of eating healthily. Here at The Guide Liverpool office we’re guilty of snacking on sweet treats, skipping lunch all together and drinking too much coffee so we decided to give smoothies and juice a go.

We asked you where to get the best smoothie or juice around the city, so we can lash the lattes and get into better habits this January. We sent our Kate on The Liverpool Smoothie Tour, here’s how she got on……

As the resident sugar lover and buyer of office sweets, it’s only right that I should lace up my trainers and head out around the city to find the best Smoothie or Juice on offer. Whether you’re looking for a detox, an energy boost or just a simple fix of healthy fruit and veg, there’s a smoothie outlet for you.

Here’s our top 5 smoothie stops around the city – Click here to watch the video trail as it happened.

1 – No Excuses Nutrition. Best For Tempting but Healthy Treats

Based on Prescot Road in Old Swan, No Excuses Nutrition by Shelley Roe offers a HUGE range of healthy smoothies, juices, delicious cakes and meals from their super trendy high street shop. Completely wheat, gluten and refined sugar-free, their produce is as colourful as it is tasty, and it smells divine! I tucked into The Hulk, £3.50 which is packed essentials greens, coconut milk and vanilla protein for a sucker-punch of energy. Click here to find out more about No Excuses Nutrition.

2 – The Juicery. Best For Pre Work and Lunch time Pick Me Ups

If you work in the commercial quarter of the city, you’ve most likely passed The Juicery, smack bang in the middle of Exchange Flags and if you’ve not popped in already, you’re missing out. Perfect for a pre-work smoothie fix, The Juicery specialises in smoothies, juices and soups that are bursting with wholesome ingredients. The girls fixed me up a ‘Number 7’ £3.80 filled with red grapes, red cabbage, beetroot and apple and assure me its the closest thing you can get to wine when you’re on a juice cleanse! Click here to view the menu and pop in on your lunch break.

3 – Joe & The Juice. Best For Mid Shop Energy Boost

The third stop on the Liverpool Smoothie Tour is hidden away on the first floor of John Lewis at Liverpool One. International franchise, Joe & The Juice is a really smart juice and coffee bar that’s perfect for a mid-shop juice stop. Serving up delicious smelling panini’s alongside a huge menu of juices that are created right in front of your eyes, the guys mixed up this big old cup of ‘Immunity’, priced at £4.35 which is a tangy mix full of red grapefruit, passion fruit and apple for an antioxidant boost. Click here to find out more about Joe & The Juice.

4 – Love Thy Neighbour. Best For Value and Atmosphere

You shouted loud about Love Thy Neighbour on Bold Street when it comes to smoothies and I fell in love with the place as soon as I walked in! Chilled beats, comfy seats and chalkboard menu’s offering organic, clean-living dishes and drinks to suit every diet. Manager Mike created this huge energy boosting concoction featuring banana, raspberries, blueberries, avocado and more. All this goodness for £4.50 and there’s always a cute dog to pet while you chill out! Click here to view the menu’s and stop by for a healthy treat.

5 – White Wolf Kitchen. Best For Service and Location

Behind a set of huge ornate doors lies a little oasis in the heart of the city. White Wolf Kitchen is part of the White Wolf Yoga, nestled in the most stunning building on Cook Street. With subtle lighting, a gentle soundtrack and white washed furniture, the kitchen serves up a host of juices, smoothies and hearty breakfasts and is open to everyone, not just yoga fans. Louise rustled up this ‘Detox’ in a glass, priced at £4. It’s absolutely packed with cucumber, apple, mint and coconut water and I opted for a shot of spirulina for an extra 50p too! Click here and check out White Wolf Yoga and Kitchen for yourself.

And the Winner is……..

Liverpool Smoothie

Love Thy Neighbour, Bold Street. The smoothie was HUGE, it was sooo tasty, really good value, the dining area and bar are modern and funky, and it’s dog friendly. I like my health kick with a side order of dog petting! Congrats you guys, we’ll be back to sample more of the menu soon.

Thank you to all the fabulous smoothie makers I met on the Liverpool Smoothie tour, you all offer something different and if I’ve learned anything from your passion and knowledge, it’s that eating right is actually really fun!

We’re sure there’s loads more healthy food outlets across the North West that you all love, so why not drop us a line with your recommendations and we’ll spread the love. Tweet us @TheGuideLpool or email us info@theguideliverpool.com
