The Restaurant Bar & Grill reveals new look after £500k refurbishment

One of Liverpool’s most iconic restaurants, The Restaurant Bar & Grill, has reopened its doors to follow an extensive £500k refurbishment.

Located in Halifax House, on Brunswick Street, the impressive Grade II heritage building boasts a stunning new look, with its incredible historical features revived and tasteful modern touches introduced throughout.

The show stopping changes are evident from the moment guests enter the restaurant, with a vast chandelier measuring over 6ft by 7ft making a bold and sparkling first impression.

Promising to further hold guests’ attention is The Restaurant Bar & Grill’s incredible ornate ceiling, which sees all intricate features, including the building’s original liver bird motifs, cornice, and columns, restored and decorated in gold leaf; an intricate and intensive job undertaken by world-renowned gold leaf specialist David Thelwell and taking over four weeks to complete.

The project is the latest in a series of decorative refurbishments undertaken by the 55-year-old from Prescot, with Thelwell having also restored the gold leaf at Liverpool Town Hall and St George’s Hall, in addition to a number of palaces in Saudi Arabia.

The work to the historical ceiling is just one of a number of changes to the striking 200-cover restaurant, with every guest touchpoint refreshed and revived, including new upholstery, statement light fittings and a stripped back and freshly polished floor, providing a warm and welcoming arrival.

Adorning every wall is a bespoke and ornate wallpaper featuring delicate blossom trees set against a backdrop of gold, designed exclusively to work with the heritage buildings’ vast proportions.  Soft furnishings in shades of lemon, pink, raspberry and baby blue soften the look in a mix of leather and velvet fabrics.

For guests looking to host a private function, the introduction of walnut and glazed ceiling to floor sliding doors create a second event space to the left of the restaurant, with seating for up to 30 at individual tables or 24 boardroom-style.

The new space joins the existing private dining room to the right of the heritage building and in which a further 24 guests can be seated in a boardroom setting.  A dropdown screen makes it the perfect space for corporate events and private presentations.

Leaving no space untouched, the restaurant’s guest bathrooms have also been transformed, with statement fixtures and impressive Italian wallcoverings in a black and floral design.

Coinciding with the reopening is the launch of The Restaurant Bar & Grill’s new autumn/winter menu,  with a focus on classic and inspired seasonal dishes, amazing steaks and cocktails to match.

Just some of the new appetiser and starter dishes to be enjoyed in the opulent surroundings include truffle and leek croquettes with truffle aioli (£8.75); cider and onion soup served with cheese sourdough toast (£6.95); tamarind glazed heritage beetroot, baby spinach, salted pistachios and soya labneh (£8.75); and sea bass ceviche, passion fruit, chilli, cucumber and avocado (£10.25).

Guests can also savour the taste of a number of exciting new main dishes including risotto with porcini mushrooms and mascarpone (£14.75); linguine with lobster (£28.50); veal chop Milanese or simply grilled with lemon, garlic and parsley (£28.50); vintage Cheddar cheese, leek and sweet potato tart, poached hens’ egg and truffle butter (£15.25); butter chicken or vegetable curry, makhani sauce and rice (£14.75), and slow roast crispy duck, red wine, apple, honey and sage (£18.95).

A chocolate brownie served with white chocolate, sour cherry and pistachio ice cream (£7.95); peanut butter cheesecake served with blackberry and bilberry ice cream and caramel coated popcorn (£7.95); passion fruit crème brûlée (£7.95), and apple and blackberry crumble served with vanilla custard (£7.95) make up the list of new seasonal desserts.

Speaking on the reopening of the impressive restaurant, General Manager of The Restaurant Bar & Grill, Kate Keyes, said: “I couldn’t be more pleased to reopen the doors to The Restaurant Bar and Grill.  The transformation of the beautiful Grade II heritage building, one of the most iconic venues in Liverpool, is nothing short of incredible and I look forward to welcoming our loyal guests to experience it for themselves.  It has the most  photographic appeal and simply has to be seen.”

The extensive £500k refurbishment was delivered by leading restaurant designer Bernard Carroll of Carroll Design and took five weeks to deliver.

Guests are encouraged to book online or on the Club Individual app. The restaurant’s Christmas offer will launch on November 8th with guests encouraged to book early so as to not miss out on celebrating the festivities in the beautiful and memorable venue.
