The show goes on for China Crisis despite power outage

Liverpool band China Crisis are currently on tour in America as part of their 40th Anniversary World Tour.

With gigs sold out at many stateside venues, including two sell out concerts at the world famous Les Paul Club on Broadway, China Crisis are wowing the American fans with some of the bands most successful numbers which span four decades.  From New York to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh to Nashville and Cincinnati to Washington; Gary Daly, Eddie Lundon and the rest of the China’s have turned the clock back with pitch perfect renditions of some of their biggest hits and best loved songs including Black Man Ray, Wishful Thinking, Stranger by Nature and It’s Everything.

But, it was the sold out Chicago gig this week that showcased the bands versatility and desire to connect to and please their audience.  Five minutes before the gig was due to start the stage manager came on stage and announced that the show was being cancelled because there had been a power outage. He informed the eager fans to claim their refunds online.

At this point a woman in the audience shouted out “I own a bar, you could play there, I have a small PA”.   In true Scouse style, the Liverpool legends took milliseconds to mull it over on stage and then announced that the gig was back on! They and the crowd then headed over to the lady’s bar, The Jarvis Square Tavern in Chicago, where they played  a free gig to gobsmacked locals and grateful fans.

Guitarist Eddie Lundon said “The lady was in floods of tears as we packed up and made our way over to her bar.  We have been performing for over 40 years and, as a band, we’ve been through everything that you could throw at us and we were not going to let a power outage disappoint our loyal fans.  You can take the Scousers out of Liverpool but you can’t take Liverpool out of the Scousers!  Nothing was going to stop us playing that gig!  Celebrating our 40 years is such an honour, we have such loyal fans and we did not want to disappoint”.

China Crisis are due back in Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Sunday 11th September, where they will be performing with Kim Wild and they will be continuing their own world tour in December with gigs in Australia and New Zealand.   China Crisis are also performing throughout the UK during 2022-23 to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
