As the drama of the 2019 Netball World Cup is set to be played out in Liverpool, the trials and tribulations of the sport are also set to be played out live on stage, as a comedy drama “celebrating all things Netball” staged at a theatre in the City.
The Play, “Bouncing Back” written by successful Liverpool born playwright Gail Young, “Bouncing Back’ – will be staged at the Royal Court Theatre from Wednesday 10th July – Saturday 13th July at 7.30pm, following a successful run at Storyhouse in Chester.
Described as a celebration of all things Netball, “Bouncing Back” follows a group of women returners to the game, the trials and tribulations of their training sessions, group bonding, getting sponsorship, tough coaching, and the stress of organising ‘me time’ as they struggle to get fit and reach their ultimate goal of actually winning a game.
The show recently enjoyed a successful revival at Storyhouse in Chester before transferring to The Royal Court and it appeals not only to netball fans but also to a wider audience, having received a huge amount of interest and feedback from the Netball Community and the wider public throughout the country. The show originally premiered in 2016 at The Forum Studio Theatre in Chester. Fans include England Netball Coach Tracey Neville MBE who took to social media tweeting “This is one of the best things I’ve ever seen!’ The play received a 5 star review from respected Arts Blog We Are Chester with theatre critic Angela Ferguson describing the play as “A moving, comical masterpiece”.
Speaking about the 2019 production of the play, Gail, originally from Bootle and no stranger to the game itself having played in various school netball teams said “I am really excited that my play is ‘Bouncing Back’ onto the stage in both Chester and Liverpool in 2019, the year that the Netball World Cup comes to Liverpool. The cast have really thrown themselves into rehearsals, especially the match sequences, to ensure that the show has an authentic netball feel to it! It is a real celebration of a game that women all over the country are flocking back to. A “must see” for anyone connected to the sport – but also a good night out at the theatre for all.”
“Bouncing Back” runs at The Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool from Wednesday 10th July – Saturday 13th July at 7.30pm each night.
