There’s an actual Jedi School opening on Merseyside for half term

The Force is set to be strong in Merseyside this half term, as Spaceport invites youngsters (and Star Wars loving adults) to visit the “Sci-Fi Icons” exhibition and take part in an exclusive series of Jedi training masterclasses.

Taking place at Spaceport in Seacombe, the workshops will help children move from Padawans to Jedi masters with the support of some of the franchise’s most popular characters.

From Monday 23 October through to Friday 27 October, children will be trained in the ways of the mystical and powerful Force, as they prepare for the inevitable attack of the Sith.

Two of the most famous Siths in Star Wars legend – Darth Vader and Darth Maul – this week arrived at Spaceport to help launch the programme of workshops, which are centred around the Planet Typhon – Part of the Deep Core Star System.

Children will also get the chance meet the two characters – as well as the Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker – for meet and greets over the half term period.

“Our Sci-Fi Icons exhibition features a private collection of Star Wars memorabilia from one of the UK’s biggest collectors and has been incredibly popular since it launched earlier this year,”, said Gary Evans of the Mersey Ferries. “Regardless of their age, people seem to love the idea of space and galaxies far, far away!

“Spaceport is one of the UK’s favourite family attractions focused on space and science, so it seemed like the perfect place to hold our Jedi Schools. Our River Explorer cruise, gives access to the ‘Sci-Fi Icons’exhibition at Spaceport and also The U-Boat Story at Woodside, so not only can families see the iconic Liverpool Waterfront, they can enjoy a action-packed out with something completely unique and interactive this October half term.”

“Although the Last Jedi is released in December this year, if the children who visit Spaceport have anything to do with it there may be a few more Jedi Masters in the galaxy before then.”

There will be five Jedi masterclasses and shows per day, starting at 11:05 and then running every hour until 15:05. Hourly meet and greets will also be available with characters from the franchise, starting at10:00am each day.

Replica weapons from the Star Wars franchise, including Princess Leia’s Blaster and Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber will also be available to view at Spaceport during the October half term holiday.

The Jedi Schools are interactive shows which are free to attend throughout the half term week. The admission price is included in a Spaceport ticket or as part of the £35 Mersey Ferries River Explorer Cruise Family Ticket. The Jedi School is suitable for children aged 6+ years.
