Watch as Gerry Marsden surprises Take That fans at Anfield with a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone
5 years ago
Could this last week get any bigger for memorable moments? Turns out yes it can! A Scouse legend joins Take That to bring the house down at Anfield.
The first gig in over ten years at Anfield was always going to be a big one. Amid weeks of speculation about who would make a surprise appearance at Take That’s Greatest Hits Live Tour, ie. Robbie…even Jason? We never, ever expected it would be a 60’s Merseybeat legend who would take our breath away.
The one and only Gerry Marsden joined Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen on stage for a heart-warming performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone and whether you’re an avid LFC fan, a blue or not even remotely into the footy, it sent chills down your spine. After a history-making week in the city for the new Champions of Europe, Take That couldn’t have chosen a more inspiring choice of special guest. Hit us and the huge Anfield crowd right in the feels.

Gerry wasn’t the only superstar to collaborate with the band. 90’s belter Relight My Fire lit the stadium in red as siren Lulu joined the three-piece band on stage to relive one of our favourite ever tracks. Support for the one-night only gig came from 80’s pop legend Rick Astley and his band. Again providing not only a hark back to the good times but also a poignant reminder of LFC’s Never Give Up approach to their Champions League campaign. Proper goosebumps beginning to end.

Not since Macca performed live during the 2008 capital of culture year has Anfield hosted a music gig and Take That have set the bar ridiculously high for a summer of amazing live performances. Every single hit from their 30 year back catalogue whipped the crowd (and a few stewards) into a frenzy. The night ended on Rule The World and a good few thousand fans carrying the pop soundtrack of our teens and beyond, back into the city, suburbs and beyond.
