Your guide to February Half Term in Liverpool

There are so many amazing things to do this half term, from theatre shows to muddy mischief, and museum magic to time travelling trails.

You’re going to be spoilt for choice, so a little forward planning will help you and your family make the most of the half term holidays.

Mudfest at WWT Martin Mere

Mudfest’s back at WWT Martin Mere so kids can stomp, splash and squelch their way through half term. From February 14-22 families can get stuck into the muddy magic of the wetlands with a host of hands-on messy activities like cooking up a muddy masterpiece in a mud kitchen, tackling a muddy obstacle course, creating a messy work of art, building a mud nest and more. 

You can even create the biggest splash in its daily North West Puddle Jumping Competition.

Speke Hall

The Speke Hall Event Room’s opening as a cosy reading and craft space for families to enjoy this half term between February 16-20. From 11am–4pm it’ll be a place to read and get creative, and on February 18, there’ll be storytelling sessions at 1–1.30pm and 2–2.30pm. 

If you prefer to stay in the great outdoors, from February 16–22, you can enjoy a self-led children’s poetry trail in the orchard. All activities are free to access, although normal admission fees apply.

World of Glass – St Helens

Take a trip back in time to Ancient Egypt, Rome, the Medieval World, the Renaissance and the Victorian era to the present day – and beyond! – with the Museum Time Travellers Trail at the St Helens museum. It’s on from Saturday, February 14 to Sunday, February 22 and it’s just £2.50 to collect your trail info from reception, but don’t forget to return to the present day to receive a reward for completing your quest and the trail!

Horrible Histories Live (And Dead!) The Concert – Empire Theatre

Those Horrible Histories people are back, this time singing all the best songs from the CBBC series. It’s a chance to see the TV actors singing Stupid Deaths, Charles II, Dick Turpin, The Monarchs Song and more! Featuring a live band led by Horrible Histories song master Richie Webb – take your singing voices with you because you’ll be expected to join in – it’s on from Friday to Saturday, February 13-14.

The Reader at Calderstones Park

There’s loads of exciting things going on at The Reader this half term (as well as its own Storybarn Holiday Club).

Monday, February 16 at 11am & 2pm is family theatre with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Join the Bookworm Players for their retelling of the classic fairy tale.

Tuesday, February 17 at 10.30am – it’s Mini Movies: The Gruffalo. The Gruffalo follows a bold little mouse on the hunt for a nut.

Wednesday, February 18 at 10.30am – Mini Movies: The Smeds and The Smoos follows two in-love aliens from enemy families who run away together.

Friday, February 20 at 1pm – Meet the Author: Chanté Timothy. Chance to meet Chanté, creator of Super Nova, plus fun with a gooey slime workshop!

Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral isn’t just somewhere you pop into, light a candle and leave again, though you absolutely can. It’s a place to explore, be curious, look up and say: ‘wow, I didn’t know that’ and take incredible photos. And February half term is one of the best times to experience it.

You can climb the tower and see the city beneath you. You can play games through the whispering arch that holds a thousand stories. Or you can join one of its guided tours and see the Cathedral through the eyes of people who know everything there is to know about the building. And if you’re coming with children, there are days during half term where the Cathedral becomes hands-on and playful, with family craft activities in this enormous space.

Entry to the Cathedral is free, so you can simply wander around and soak everything in, or you can add a bit extra to your visit to help sustain its future. Tours start from just £6, which is astonishing value when you consider what you come away with. And Don’t’ forget, there is also the Cathedral Shop for a browse and Welsford Bistro if you fancy warming up with good food and a drink.

There’s always tons of stuff going on at the Faraday Road attraction with interactive Let’s Play! sessions throughout the school holidays. Have fun in the Imagination Village where kids can explore the different shops and restaurants; enjoy crafts and activities in the Art Beatz Zone; get stuck into hands-on play for mini scientists in the Bright Sparks Science Zone, make your very own custom slime, and more.

Jack & The Beanstalk – Theatre Royal St Helens

Follow Jack on a rags-to-riches adventure as he swaps the family cow for a handful of magical beans, and is whisked away to a breathtaking world above the clouds when they burst into life and grow into a towering beanstalk. It’s always great panto fun from the Theatre Royal and this promises to be packed with laughs and larger-than-life silliness for all ages. From February 14-22.

Tiger Takeover at Knowsley Safari

Challenge Point Liverpool

It’s Liverpool’s newest attraction and offers you a live gameshow experience! Some of the games you’ll recognise, others you might not – but you’ll have the best laugh finding and figuring them out. If you’ve ever watched a game show, you’ll have an idea of what’s in store – think The Crystal Maze combined with The Cube, add a dash of a Mission Impossible-style laser maze, mix in the excitement of Supermarket Sweep, and you might be getting close! It’s action-packed and everyone will love it.

Families can get a haunted history holiday treat with Shiverpool who’ll be running their famous Hope Street Shivers Ghost Tours throughout half term week. The award-winning Shiverpool specialises in theatrical experiences bringing Liverpool’s history to life (and death) with storytelling street tours around the city centre and its Hope Street Shivers tour takes in the city’s cathedrals, the crooked smile of Rodney Street and the mysterious story of Will McKenzie’s blackened pyramid tomb.

Free Guided Heritage Trail Tour at Liverpool ONE for Must See Month

Step back in time and explore over 300 years of Liverpool’s fascinating past with a free guided tour of the Liverpool ONE Heritage Trail as part of Must See Month. The tour guide will lead you on a 60-minute tour across Liverpool ONE discovering the city’s maritime legacy from the creation of the world’s first commercial wet dock to Liverpool’s role in shaping global events. Catch it on Friday, February 13, 1pm and Saturday, February 21, 1pm (or grab a Heritage Trail map and guide yourself).

A Squash and a Squeeze – Liverpool Playhouse

There’s puppet perfection at the Playhouse with A Squash and a Squeeze, a live-for-the-first-time stage production based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. It tells the story of the little old lady who lived all by herself in her cosy cottage and was unhappy because her house felt too small … but would bringing in a greedy, noisy crowd of farmyard animals make a difference? This heartwarming and hilarious adventure’s on from Monday, February 16 to Saturday, February 21.

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum

Catalyst’s one of THE best science-based family attractions with interactive exhibits, museum archives, historical galleries, family shows and hands-on workshops – and a glass walled, roof-top gallery which you get to via an external glass lift and which gives you the most amazing panoramic views of the area.

The Widnes centre is open every day throughout half term between 10am and 4pm, and there are amazing workshops running every day.

A day out in Southport 

There’s nothing like a day out at the seaside and we’ve got a boss one just an hour away from Liverpool, and it’s not just somewhere to walk on the beach while you eat a 99 (although we’d suggest giving that a go too). You can enjoy food and drink from around the world at Southport Market; hire a rowing boat on Marine Lake; see the Victorian shelters and Venetian Bridge in King’s Gardens, or visit the aviary, fernery and café at the Botanic Gardens.

Lightport

Staying in Southport … and this will be an incredible way for anyone to start their half term holidays. Lightport is a brand-new free immersive light art experience that’s set to run for three evenings from February 14–16. Inviting everyone to step into a vibrant world of colour, sound and movement, Lightport will follow a 400-metre route, transforming Lord Street into a playful, walk-through trail of interactive light installations inspired by the beauty and joy of rainbows.

The Atkinson – Southport

There’s plenty for children and families at The Atkinson this half term, as well as all the regular drop in sessions for very young ones.

On Wednesday, February 18 at 2pm it’s The Bubbles Show 2 – More Bubbles!: From the creator of The Bubble Show it’s a dazzling new adventure full of bubble artistry and visual magic. And on Friday, February 20 at 2pm, it’s time for the Pop Princesses: World Tour, where princesses become pop stars singing hits from Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Lizzo, and more.

Circus Spectacular – Epstein Theatre

This is one way to kick off half term as the circus comes to town on Friday, February 13. Featuring circus acts from around the world, magic, and loads of clown fun.

Free fun at Shakespeare Theatre North

Visit the Prescot theatre for a fantastic programme of activities and events to entertain all the family. There’s creative fun and live performance including a costume-making workshop to celebrate World Book Day, two family theatre shows – Tidy Trolls and The Lost Property Library – plus a whole range of activities and workshops to mark Chinese New Year.

Lunar New Year in Liverpool

The city’s set to welcome the Lunar New Year in style with a series of events and activities to mark the Year of the Horse. The main Chinese New Year celebrations will be held in an around Chinatown on Sunday, February 22February, with a smaller and quieter programme of events on Saturday, February 21.

On both days from 11am to 5pm there’ll be activities including family workshops, Tai Chi demonstrations, live music, street theatre, unique stage performances, a fairground, and food and craft stalls; and on Sunday only, firecracker displays and traditional dragon, lion, and unicorn parades.

There’ll also be a procession through the city centre on the Saturday, and Chinese lanterns will be on display on Paradise Street and College Lane.

Royal Albert Dock

There’s a raft of events to help you make the most of a day at the dock throughout half term:

Art Workshops – families can get creative with a series of free drop-in arts and crafts workshops running from February 16 to 20 inside PANAM, Revolution, and The Discovery Zone at The Beatles Story.

Chinese New Year Dragon Installation – created especially for this year’s festivities, from February 14 visitors will be greeted by two striking, large-scale dragon installations either side of Salthouse Bridge.

Fiesta of Fire – Returning for its third consecutive year, Fiesta of Fire will transform the inner quay with dazzling pyrotechnical performances from Bring the Fire Project on February 15 and 21. New for 2026, the shows will be projected onto the facade of the Maritime Museum as part of Dock Shorts, accompanied by eight fire artists dotted around the inner quay and a live soundtrack from Wirral Drummers to create an immersive experience. Shows will take place at 6pm and 7pm on February 15, and at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm on February 21.

Also, from February 16 – 22 there’s a special Dock Shorts animation celebrating the Year of the Horse being projected daily onto the Maritime Museum from 5pm–10pm.

Wild World at World Museum Liverpool

World Museum’s popular Dinosaurs and Natural World gallery is reopening to the public on Saturday, February 14, just in time for half term. Following a refresh – and a new name – Wild World: Dinosaurs and Natural History will offer a richer visitor experience and bring the natural world to life. Visitors can glimpse life in thick rainforests with hanging canopies, the lions and lionesses that prowl the savannahs of Africa to the frozen, icy worlds of the Arctic, Antarctica and Patagonia, and more. 

Wild World: Dinosaurs and Natural History is on the fourth floor of World Museum and free to enter.
