Only a few days to go and we’ll have made it to February at last!

Liverpool Lunar New Year weekend
Liverpool always puts on a spectacular celebration for Lunar New Year and this year, Year of the Snake, is going to be just as big. The main focus around Chinatown will be on Sunday featuring the traditional Dragon and Lion parade between 11.15am and 3.30pm and the Unicorn parade 12.15pm to 4pm. Look out too for beautiful projections and activities at the Bombed Out Church next weekend.

Follow up the Lunar celebrations at Chamber 36
Food plays a big part in Lunar celebrations so if you want to carry on your own in a super-tasty way head to Chamber 36 on Berry Street right by the Chinese arch. It gets brilliant reviews for its modern Pan-Asian small plates, mains and dim sum – plus some gorgeous cocktails – and it’s got a cool look too.

Peter Kavanagh’s Pub – one of the best in the city!
For anyone who knows their Liverpool pubs, Peter Kavanagh’s on Egerton Street in the Georgian Quarter is an absolute legend. Forget carefully styled interiors, this is probably the quirkiest historic place for a drink in the city. It’s got a lovely vibe about it, full of charm, nick-nacks and a proper Scouse welcome.
Pass the Parcel at Liverpool’s Royal Court
Why not make these last few days of January go a bit quicker by seeing a live show? Sarah Whitehead’s Pass the Parcel at the Royal Court Studio has laughs and plenty of relatability as three daughters get together to relive memories after their mum dies. A great cast includes the wonderful Eithne Browne.

If you’re around Greenbank or Sefton Park and want a delicious brekkie, head to The Wheelbarrow, sister venue of the Watering Can, because you won’t be disappointed. In Greenbank Sports Academy, it’s a gem and the full English – regular, veggie or vegan – will set you up for the whole day.

Strictly Live Tour at M&S Bank Arena
Strictly fans don’t have to wait a year for more dancefloor action because the live tour is back at the Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday. Motsi, Shirley, Anton and Craig will be there to judge a line-up including Sarah Hadland, Wynne Evans, and JB Gill in a fab-u-lous show directed by Craig.

Keep the kids entertained at Bubbles World of Play New Brighton
Keep kids happy and let them have fun and run off loads of energy at Bubbles World of Play in New Brighton. It’s perfect because it’s a huge indoor play space so it suits all weather, there’s something for kids aged up to 11, and its one free hot drink for every adult this week Tuesday to Friday.

The Terminator Double bill – screening this Saturday at the Plaza, Crosby
Good news for fans of classic films because Plaza 80/90s is back this Saturday from 5.45pm for its first one of the year and it’s all about Arnie. Plaza 80s & 90s Presents The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day with DJ Nick Gartland, and tickets are only a tenner for the two.

Girlband + Tom A at Future Yard on Sunday
Future Yard in Birkenhead is a fantastic for live music and there are six shows on every night except Tuesday for Independent Venue Week. The line-up includes Radio 6’s Chris Hawkins all-dayer on Saturday and on Sunday a double headliner with Girlband and Tom A Smith.

Rhythm & Roll skate with DJs at Invisible Wind Factory on Thursday
The Invisible Wind Factory’s rollerdome is in action again on Thursdays so from 7.30pm you can get your skates on to a soundtrack of RnB, hip hop, disco, and more thanks to resident and guest DJs. It’s aimed at all levels so if you’re looking for a new regular thing for 2025 this could be the one.

Sunday Roast at Emily’s, Formby
Sunday Roast always feels like a treat, but some are extra special and Emily’s is definitely one of those. Not only is the restaurant itself a beauty, the menu is top class with mains like roast chicken in butter with black truffle, or Gressingham duck with soy and honey jus, served with Yorkies and fresh veg.

The award-winning Spire has been a favourite on the south Liverpool restaurant scene for ages and it’s still hugely popular thanks to superb modern British and European dishes, based on regionally-sourced ingredients. It’s open Wed-Sun for lunch and dinner, and there’s an early evening set menu.

Wash away the winter blues at Wyld Sauna
This has got to be up there as one of the best refreshing experiences in Liverpool – Wyld Sauna, the UK’s first public floating sauna at Princes Dock.
