10 things you can get up to in Liverpool this weekend (17-19 September)

It might be officially getting towards the end of summer, but keep it to yourself because it looks like nobody’s told the weather and there are still lots of events and openings happening to make the most of it.
If you’re getting out and about this weekend, here are 10 things you might want to check out …
Cream Classical on the waterfront
Nile Rodgers, The Zutons and our own Rebecca Ferguson were amazing on Thursday night, now the Pier Head is taken over for the weekend by Cream Classical. On Saturday expect the 50-piece Kaleidoscope Orchestra and artists performing a new live show featuring some of the biggest tracks in dance music plus a line-up including the likes of Basement Jaxx, Faithless, Seb Fontaine and Tall Paul. Then on Sunday it’s Cream Classical Ibiza with Armand van Helden, Groove Armada DJ set, Roger Sanchez and more. Gates open at 12.

Yousef 5-hour History set at Circus
Liverpool DJ/producer legend Yousef is back at The Arts Club on Seel Street this Saturday for what promises to be an incredible night. He’ll be playing a special five-hour ‘History of Circus’ set in the theatre, with all proceeds going to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. 10pm-3am.

Gym+Coffee launches at Liverpool ONE
If you like a sweaty session in the gym, but also love a decent coffee, then this new Irish-born athleisure brand coming to Liverpool ONE is for you. It’s launching its latest retail Clubhouse here and it’s promising a space full of the latest styles where you can get advice on products, find out more about the Gym+Coffee events and community or just pop in for the craic! There’ll be special opening weekend offers and activities too.

Beyonce’s 40th birthday at Camp and Furnace
Can you believe that Queen B is turning the big 4-0? Celebrate all the fabulousness of the goddess of RnB pop’s big birthday with a night devoted to her at Camp & Furnace this Saturday. If you think you’re ready, then get there for a night of Beyonce hits, live dancers, a DJ, themed cocktails and loads of Destiny’s Child throwbacks.

Gandeys Circus is back at Aintree
All the thrills of the big top are back at Aintree Racecourse from this Friday as Gandeys returns with its new 2021 show. Acts will include the premiere of The Double Acrobatic Swing from the Ukrainian Didyk troupe, clown antics from Andreea, exhilarating motorcycles in the Thunderdome and the roller-skating Duo Eclipse performing incredible hand-to-hand skills with a breathtaking neck-spin! It’s on until Tuesday September 28.

Rock out to Rock of Ages at the Empire
It’s big hair and air guitar time at the Empire with the ultimate 80s musical Rock of Ages on this week until Saturday night. Strictly winner Kevin Clifton grabs the mic to take the role of rock star Stacee Jaxx in a musical that’s absolutely crammed with anthems like Don’t Stop Believin’, We Built This City and The Final Countdown.

Mowgli Trust Dog Show on Sunday
One of the best family days out of the year – especially for anyone who loves their four-legged mates – is happening again at Claremont Farm in Bebington this Sunday. Mowgli Trust Dog Show will be full of doggie contests, great local food and drink stands, craft stalls, plenty for the kids to do – and Johnny Bongo doing his thing in the main arena too. It’s on 10am to 4pm, all in aid of Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Our Lady of Blundellsands arrives at the Everyman
The pandemic put the brakes on this production back in 2020, but you can’t keep a good show down and now lead Josie Lawrence is back with a fantastic cast in Jonathan Harvey’s comedy. With his trademark sharp wit and spot-on observation, it’s all about family secrets, lies and fantasies and a birthday party to remember. From this Friday until October 9.

Enjoy the last of the high temperatures with cocktails at Goodness Gracious
Getting up and out on our rooftop bars is a summer treat, but we’re not prepared to give up on it just yet – there’s still some outdoor cocktail drinking to be had and Goodness Gracious, the rooftop of Oh Me Oh My, has some of the most fabulous views in the city, right opposite the Liver Buildings, so it couldn’t be better.

This newly opened hotel looks like an absolute stunner and one of the highlights is the new Gino’s up on the 18th floor. There’s a huge classic and signature cocktail list plus a menu of Italian small plates, cicchetti, split into five sections – stuzzichini, pesce, carne, vegetariani, and dolci – so there really is something for everyone.
