We’re still waiting on those high temperatures and endless sunshine coming back, but it looks like things are heading in the right direction.
So, if you want to get out and enjoy it – or you’ve already run out of ideas to keep the kids busy – here are 14 things happening this week …
Christina Aguilera plays M&S Bank Arena tonight!
Christina Aguilera’s an absolute superstar and she’s coming to the Arena for one night – tonight (Wed) – for what should be an amazing gig. She’s got 20 years’ worth of hits to pack in so expect a set including anthems like Dirrty, Ain’t No Other Man, Fighter and Genie in a Bottle.

Velociraptor show comes to Camp and Furnace on Thursday
Kids, or big kids, who love dinosaurs will really love the Velociraptor show coming back to Camp and Furnace with the award-winning Teach Rex team. It’s an interactive show with special effects and music which uses life-like dinosaurs to teach kids and lets them get up close and see how they’d have really looked when they were roaming the planet.

Get a taste of 1913 at LEAF on Bold Street this Wednesday
While renovation work was happening at LEAF, a menu from over 100 years ago was found in the rafters, dating back to January 15, 1913. Now they’re celebrating the building’s heritage with a special four-course A Taste of 1913 menu this Wednesday, 6.30pm, recreating what was being served back in the day.

Brunch, Sunday roast or midweek dining at Barnacle on Duke Street
Barnacle, upstairs at Duke Street Market, is one of Liverpool’s hidden gems but it’s definitely worth finding because you’ll get to sample dishes created by four of the city’s best chefs. They’re open from 12 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays so it’s a great place for brunch, or treat yourself to a fabulous two or three course Sunday roast.

Enjoy the Hilton al fresco terrace
When the sun’s out, we should be out too, preferably with something nice and chilled in hand! The Hilton’s new outdoor terrace is like a pretty urban garden and it’s a great spot for people-watching with a menu of summer cocktails created by Botanist Gin and beers from Love Lane Brewery. Open every day from 12 and there’s live music at weekends.

A weekend of giggles as live comedy continues at Laughterhouse
If you fancy a laugh this weekend, head to Laughterhouse where they’re pretty much guaranteed. This Friday it’s Chris Cairns, with Steve Hughes, Steve Harris and Liam Pickford at The Slaughter House on Fenwick Street, and on Saturday it’s Jonny Awsum, with Chris Cairns, Steve Harris and Liam Pickford.

Discover the secrets of Doctor Who at the World Museum
Ahead of the arrival of new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa, fans of the show can find out more about it – and about science and time travel – at World Museum’s epic interactive exhibition Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder. You’ll see original artefacts, props, monsters and a Tardis of course. It’s on until October and kids under 5 go free.

This is going to be next-level Bongo’s like you’ve never seen it before – 90s Forever which is on for two nights at the Exhibition Centre. Saturday’s already sold out, but if you’re quick there’s still chance to grab the last tickets for Friday and their biggest shows ever, Bongo’s mayhem on a massive scale.

Try lunch at new Mann Island venue, Nova Scotia
This is a beautiful location any time, right down by the waterfront, but if the weather’s decent then it’s ever better. Nova Scotia’s not been open long, so if you’ve not tried it out yet, now’s the time – it’s from the team behind Tempest on Tithebarn & Ma Boyle’s so you know the food is going to be freshly-made and lovely and there’s a great choice of sandwiches, mains and small plates on for lunch.

Sometimes you can’t beat a good traditional boozer and The Railway on Tithebarn Street ticks all the boxes. It’s got history, it looks the part inside, there’s a nice crowd and it’s got some really tasty home-cooked food and a top selection of real ales, wines and gins. There’s also an outside seating area.

How about Liverpool’s first revolving cheese carousel & wine bar at GPO in Metquarter?
A non-stop merry-go-round of cheese sounds like Christmas come early to us, but now it’s actually here, at GPO in the Metquarter thanks to the Carousel Cheese Co. You can choose from the finest cheese and charcuterie, plus wines to pair with them – and if that wasn’t enough, you can go bottomless on Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 12-4pm.

The YKids! Pirate Festival continues at Bootle Strand
Stripey T-shirts and eye patches ready because the YKids! Pirate Fest is still on at Bootle Strand until this Saturday. There’s a programme of free swashbuckling pirate-themed activities for kids from 10am til 4pm including digging for treasure, walking the plank and pirate crafts and trails.

Footie’s back – watch it live at Punch Tarmey’s, Camp and Furnace or McCooley’s Concert Square
The Reds and Blues are back for the new season this Saturday and fans not actually going to the games can still get all the atmosphere in town. Punch Tarmey’s at Cains is showing Fulham v Liverpool on all 18 screens & video walls in the courtyard, 12.30pm kick-off, Camp and Furnace has a fan park with a huge screen (doors at 11.30am), and it’s showing at McCooley’s too so you could get an Irish fry-up with your footie.

Brick Live continues to showcase the world’s most endangered animals at Knowsley Safari
These life-size animals made from more than a million little bricks are really incredible to see, dotted around Knowsley Safari’s foot safari. There’s everything from a panda and panther to a fabulous Bengal tiger and you can check them off on your map as you go exploring. On until September 4.
