Time to start picking up pressies if you haven’t already because the Christmas Market is launching from Friday around St John’s Gardens and William Brown Street. There’ll be 40 stalls, rides and loads of fantastic street food including everyone’s favourite Yorkshire pud wraps.
No official switch-on for the Christmas lights this year, but from Friday you won’t be able to miss them bringing a magical twinkly festive feeling around the city centre, with lit trees in Williamson Square and Old Hall Street. The tree’s already up in Liverpool ONE and tonight is a Christmas launch event with characters, a choir and sing-a-long with Santa and Mrs Claus.
The Albert Dock’s Light Trail was hugely popular last year, and is it’s back for 2021. The Colonnades are lit up with millions of lights and they’ve been joined by giant illuminated Liver Birds Bella and Bertie, as well as Neptune and Triton. You can download a map to discover them all, and listen to the dock’s Christmas playlist while you’re wandering.
The Restaurant Bar & Grill on Brunswick Street has just had a big refurb, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Book in for dinner – the Christmas menus have started alongside the regular one – and sample new festive cocktails including the Xmas Tree Bramble made with raspberry and blackberry infused Bombay Sapphire gin.

Because it’s not all about the boy, the girls are on the decks on Friday for a Fat Boy Slim after party at Asylum on Friday night. DJs Billie Clements, Vicki Scott, Millie Manning, Kaci Lea and Gee DJ will be keeping the dancefloor rammed from 10pm to 4am, last entry 12.
Even if you’ve not been able to get a ticket for this on Saturday and Sunday at the Exhibition Centre, doesn’t mean you can’t still spot some of the stars around town – if you’re out around the dock especially, look out for the cast of Vampire Diaries, Sons of Anarchy, The Inbetweeners and more.
The comedian behind the huge Netflix hit The Duchess, as well as loads of funny TV panel shows, comes to the Empire on Saturday with her live show – Missus – in which she reveals just how her life has changed since she accidentally married her first love.
La Tasca is gone and in its place there’s a brand new tapas restaurant, Tapas Revolution, with a fabulous menu created by Madrid-born celebrity chef Omar Allibhoy. Give it a try if you love authentic Spanish small plates and speciality sangrias including an amazing sparkling one made with Cava.
Bierkeller in Liverpool ONE can always be relied on to bring the party vibes, whether it’s the run-up to the party season or not, with endless steins, dancing and a bit of oompah-ing thrown in. It’s the most fun with a group of mates, so check it out especially if you’re still looking for the perfect place for your Christmas do.
There’s a reason why Casa Italia’s been a big part of going out in Liverpool for what feels like forever – the food and service are brilliant. It’s got a real traditional feel to it and the pastas and pizzas are always spot-on, plus the homemade focaccia bread is another level.
We’re spoilt for choice with great roasts in Liverpool, but Fred’s has got to be one of the best and the atmosphere is too, especially if you can grab a table near the fire. Choose from roast chicken, lamb or beef, or mushroom and spinach nut roast, all with whopping Yorkies and roast root veg.
If you want to get away from it all and out into nature for a while, especially if the kids need to let off steam, head to Croxteth Country Park because the autumn colours are lovely right now and there’s lots of woodland, ponds, paths and trails to explore and spot wildlife.
Merseymade on Paradise Street is celebrating its second birthday so if you’re out pressie shopping get over there because you’ll not only find something creative and unique, but you could meet the makers behind it. And, if you’re getting hungry, there’s a new menu too including delicious stacked banoffee pancakes.
