6 Attractions all kids will love when you Visit Southport this summer

Make some memories with the kids this summer with a day out in Southport.

When it comes to surviving the summer holidays with a young family, variety and value for money is key. Visit Southport and mix seaside attractions with the thrill of the fairground and good old fashioned fun on the swings. There’s something for everyone.

With 22 miles of coastline, lush green waterfront parks and the beautiful Grade II Listed iron Pier to take you from land to shore, Southport is a real seaside gem. With a host of free and affordable attractions just a short walk from the train and bus stations, a day out in Southport costs less than you think.

Watch above as we send our Kate and the kids to visit Southport.

Flying kites on the beach, sharing fish & chips by the lake and playing the penny slots until teatime, Southport offers families the chance to enjoy quality time together away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The foodie scene in Southport is also on the up. With more independent cafes, restaurants and bars than ever before, you can enjoy a family friendly, hearty lunch or dinner after a day of rides, thrills and seaside fun. More on our top Southport eateries here.

Here’s 6 activities all kids will love when you visit Southport…..

Southport Pier

The oldest iron pier in the UK, Southport Pier is the perfect walkway to take in the fresh sea air, enjoy the views and let the kids wander carefree. If their little legs get tired you can always jump on the Southport Pier Train back to dry land.

Penny Slots & Ice Cream

The most indulgent of treats awaits you after a leisurely stroll down Southport Pier. Choose your favourite flavour of Southport Pier Ice-cream and try your hand at the old school penny slot machines that have entertained generations of families at the seaside. Try the limited edition Potted Shrimp ice-cream with added foam shrimp sweets, you wont regret it!

Southport Beach

Visit Southport Beach for unforgettable summer days that won’t break the bank. Pack up your buckets and spades, a picnic and plenty of factor 50 for a day of digging, splashing and making fabulous family memories. With over 22 miles of coastline stretching from Crosby to Formby, Ainsdale and beyond, there’s dunes, cycle paths and incredible views to enjoy.

Southport Pleasureland

Thrill seekers are also catered for when you visit Southport. Pleasureland on Marine Drive offers a fun mix of rides and amusements with something for kids of all ages. Run-away rollercoasters, dodgems, hook a duck, Go karts, carousels and water-rides make up this family-friendly park. There’s also plenty of outlets to grab a bite to eat and drinks.

Free entry for all means you pay only for the rides you choose – making the family budget go that little bit further this summer.

Marine Lake

After all the fun of the fair, head to Marine Lake for a gentle paddle on the water. Choose a swan or flamingo pedalo to glide across the water or ride the Marine Lake train with an ice-cream. With beautiful views, lots of benches and green space and a seafront breeze make for the perfect al fresco lunch spot. Fish & chips anyone?

Kings Gardens Play Park

When all is said and done, what kids love most is simple play. Kings Gardens Play Park is an adventure filled play frame which encourages your little ones to scramble, climb, swing and slide until their hearts are content. Conveniently placed a short walk from Southport Pier attractions, this free to enter, open all year round park is a must when you visit Southport.

Summer days out in Southport offer something for everyone. With fun, educational events at The Atkinson, The Southport Flower Show and the thrilling Southport Air Show and British Musical Fireworks Championship still to come in 2019, there’s never been a better time to visit Southport.
