Liverpool Cathedral has everything you need for a summer day out in the city
33 minutes ago
Liverpool Cathedral is inviting families and visitors to make the most of the summer with a packed programme of experiences, stunning city views and great food, all in one of the city’s most iconic buildings.
As Britain’s largest cathedral, Liverpool Cathedral is one of the city’s best known landmarks and has welcomed generations of people through its doors. Whether it’s celebrating a special occasion, taking a quiet moment or simply admiring the architecture, the Cathedral continues to play an important role in Liverpool life.
One of the highlights this summer is the Cathedral Tower Experience, giving visitors the chance to enjoy panoramic views across Liverpool, the River Mersey and beyond from 152 metres above sea level. Along the way, guests can also step inside the bell chamber, home to the world’s highest and heaviest peal of bells, and learn more about the Cathedral’s history.

For those wanting to discover even more, a range of guided tours is available throughout the summer. The popular Above and Beyond Tour takes visitors behind the scenes to parts of the Cathedral that are rarely open to the public, while expert guides share the fascinating story of the building.
Visitors can also choose from the Stained Glass Windows Tour, the Outside Tour and the new Medical Heritage Tour, each offering a different perspective on one of Liverpool’s most famous landmarks.
After exploring, guests can stop off at the Welsford Bistro, which serves freshly prepared meals, homemade cakes, seasonal drinks and what many believe is one of the best bowls of Scouse in the city.
Families can also make the most of reduced prices throughout the summer. From 25 June until 1 September, Liverpool Cathedral is passing on savings following the Government’s temporary reduction in VAT on children’s meals and family leisure activities. Discounts are available on the Cathedral Tower Experience, guided tours and children’s menu meals, with the offer applying to tickets purchased and used during the promotional period.

Alissa Koopal, Director of Enterprise at Liverpool Cathedral, said: “Liverpool Cathedral has something for everyone this summer. Whether you’re climbing the tower, discovering hidden parts of the building on one of our guided tours, or relaxing with a delicious meal in the Welsford Bistro, there’s plenty to enjoy. We’re also particularly pleased to be able to offer reduced prices throughout the summer, making it even easier for families to experience everything the Cathedral has to offer.”
