It’s the New Year, we’re all on a health kick, but getting your health and fitness fix isn’t easy – especially if you work nine to five or have to juggle a family. Let’s face it, many of us will find any excuse to skip the gym, or wriggle out of any resolution.
But an early morning workout is a fantastic way to start the day and might be the best answer to getting into a routine that you can stick to.
According to research morning workouts are great to help you feel energised and motivated; and releasing all those feel-good chemicals into your body will boost your mood and melt away stress – so the day can only get better.
Lifestyles Gym, Everton Park
Just minutes from the city centre this Lifestyles Gym is ideal if you want to dive into the day. Its pool is open for public swimming from 7.30am to 9.30pm so there’s plenty of time to get a few lengths in and get your hair dried before you go to the office. And swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Liverpool Pilates Hub, Lark Lane
Liverpool Pilates Hub runs a host of exercise classes including Power Pilates at Lark Lane Community Centre every Thursday from 6.20-7.20am. It’s a circuit training-based class to challenge your strength and power with the use of medicine balls, kettlebells, therabands, Pilates circles and more. Learn to lift with the fundamentals of Pilates to keep you strong and injury free. It costs £6 if you book online or £7 in cash on the day.

Workout Liverpool, Dunnings Bridge Road
When most people’s alarms haven’t even gone off, the team in Dunnings Bridge Road is raring to go and get you started too. Classes include a body conditioning session from 6.15am which does exactly what it says on the tin. A high workload with minimal rest, you will feel the burn while having fun using TufNuts, ropes and other innovative equipment.
Main benefits include endurance, muscular development and cardiovascular improvement. Other early morning classes include Boxfit – a 45-minute cardiovascular workout with skipping, boxing drills including footwork and abdominal workouts – at 6.15am and a full body pump from 7am, all depending on which day you go.

Yoga Hub Liverpool, Old Hall Street
Rise and shine and get ready for the day ahead, with Sunrise Hot Yoga from 7.30am every Tuesday and Thursday. Classes are taught in a heat chamber where overhead infrared heating panels are used to create intense sauna-like conditions of up to 105 degrees with the heat improving flexibility allowing you to move deeper into the postures. It is also delivers a thorough cardiovascular workout and is great for detoxing. Prices start at £20 for five classes.

Signature Fit Club, Old Hall Street
In the heart of the business district on Old Hall Street, Signature has got a variety of classes between 7.30-8.15am each week day. Included is a Strength class, Box Body and Cardio. A January deal means membership is £10 for 30 days which includes unlimited access to classes and open studio; after which it will be £40 per month with no contract or £35 per month for a six-month contract.
The 6am Club - Running
Perfect for all you runners out there. The 6am Club shouts out to all the people who ‘wake up early before the sun does’. Originally started from Kirkby Milers almost four years ago it’s a running group which gets out and about from West Derby Village three times a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
They do five miles on Tuesdays and Thursdays and three to four on Fridays to encourage those who are just getting into running.
They’d love more to join them. Why so early? Work commitments for most but also ‘we have the roads almost all to ourselves, see sunrises and the sense of achievement of running 5 miles before 7am is great’!

The Gym Liverpool, Clayton Square/ Liverpool ONE/ Great Homer Street
Located 60 seconds from Liverpool Central and Lime Street Stations and open 24/7 so there’s no excuse for missing an exercise either on your commute into or from work. The Clayton Square fitness centre reckons it wants to make it as easy as possible so there’s no contract and you can try it for size before you join – it also has a gym in Liverpool One and Great Homer Street. Early morning classes include Legs, Bums and Tums from 7.30am, HIIT Circuits from 7.10am and Fit Pump. You’ll be flying into work.
