Watch as we get an update about Africa Oyé 2021 and find out about its new online shows

Africa Oyé was like many other festivals forced to cancel in 2020 and with things still so unpredictable for the months ahead Festival Director Paul Duhaney says there is no clear news yet as to whether the 2021 edition will be held in its usual format. But there is good news as the festival continues its new online platform.

Liverpool’s beloved Africa Oyé takes places every June in Sefton Park and organiser Paul believes it’s the music that makes it so magical.

He says the team are taking things week by week and nothing is decided yet on this year’s event. Watch our chat with Paul above who gives us an insight into planning for a major event during the uncertain times.

Last year the festival launched a brand new online series of original concerts, interviews, documentaries and DJ sets, which stream for free each month.

The latest edition of the series – which takes its name from the Swahili word for ‘at home’ – features an original concert and interview with South African singer-songwriter, Vusi Mahlasela.

Vusi Mahlasela is simply known as ‘The Voice’ in his home-country, celebrated for his distinct, powerful sound and his poetic, optimistic lyrics. His songs of hope connect Apartheid-scarred South Africa with its promise for a better future.

You can watch the stream via the website here.
