Four ways to raise money for local Liverpool charities
4 years ago
Loads of charities have had their funds hit hard during Covid which means they are relying on our help more than ever.
So itâs great that there are still so many ways you can fundraise for them, and have fun or test yourself in the process.
Want to know how? Hereâs four ways to support four fantastic local charitiesâŠ
Claire House â Virtual Butterfly Bake
Itâs not just the Bake Off team thatâs asking you to roll up your sleeves and get creating in the kitchen, so too is Claire House.
The childrenâs hospice wants you to âgo with the doughâ this March and take part in The Virtual Butterfly Bake!Â
The event is named after the Butterfly Suites at Claire House where bereavement care is offered. Over the last year, Claire House has cared for 95 children at the end of their life and the Butterfly Bake will help to continue its aim âto reach every child that needs usâ.
There are loads of different ways you can get involved, and all from the comfort of your own kitchen.
Claire House says: âBy taking part and raising some dough for the hospice, you could be helping to support our end of life care provided in our Butterfly Suites.â
ZoĂ«âs Place â Abseil down Liverpool Cathedral
Got a head for heights? And do you fancy a new challenge for 2021?
Then, if youâre free on Saturday, July 31, you could be in luck, because thatâs when ZoĂ«âs Place is staging a 150ft Freefall Abseil down the outside of Liverpool Cathedral which you could take part in.
The Baby Hospice has teamed up with the organisers of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral Abseil for another year and has got 20 spaces for the morning of that day.
Says ZoĂ«âs Place: âItâs a once in a life-time kind of opportunity to climb to the top of one of the most iconic buildings in Liverpool and then scale down the outside, taking in all the sights of our beautiful city as you go.â
For anyone wishing to take part thereâs an initial £35 registration fee per person, and they must pledge to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship for the hospice.
Maggieâs Merseyside â 300,000 Steps Challenge
Weâve all laced up our trainers or walking shoes in lockdown, so this is a perfect one to raise money for a very worthy cause AND keep us fit.
So, if youâre ready for another challenge, you might want to make it for Maggieâs Merseysideâs March event because the charity, which offers support for people with cancer, as well as their family and friends, is asking fundraisers to do 300,000 Steps in just 31 days.
If you and your household reckon this might be for you â or, even if you fancy doing it solo â you can join their Facebook Group and community, get a free Maggie’s t-shirt and, more importantly than ever, enjoy a challenge where every single step matters.
If you manage to raise ÂŁ150 or more, you even get a finishers medal.
So, lace up, and put your best foot forward. Maggieâs Merseyside says: âWith your help, we can make sure everyone with cancer gets the support they need.â

Alder Hey â A Million Miles for Childrenâs Mental Health
The cityâs world-renowned childrenâs hospital is aiming to raise ÂŁ3million to raise vital funds to enhance inpatient and community mental health services at Alder Hey Childrenâs NHS Foundation Trust.
Seven out of 10 children and young people who experience a mental health condition have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age, and Alder Hey hopes that the money will enable more children to access the treatment they need, when they need it!
Love Islandâs Tommy Fury is spearheading the drive to get people to sign up.
He says: âExercise is proven to benefit mental health, so what better way to support young people who need access to proper mental health services than to walk, run, cycle or swim and help Alder Hey to reach a collective million miles for childrenâs mental health by 2022.
âItâs easy to do your bit, whether thatâs a little at a time, day by day, or by setting yourself amazing challenges like doing a marathon, it all adds up!â
