15 amazing things you can do this weekend in Liverpool (25-27 June)

England fans can take a bit of a breather this weekend, with all eyes on Wales on Saturday – but if you’re not interested in the Euros then you’ll be wanting to get out and about to do other things.

The Gin to My Tonic Show

Gin lovers will be in their absolute element at the Exhibition Centre this weekend because The Gin to My Tonic show is back, bringing all things gin including unlimited tastings and over 250 varieties. You’ll get a chance to meet the makers behind over 50 premium gin and mixer brands, plus there’s cocktail making masterclasses, taste challenges, presentations from distilleries, and bartender theatricals.

Try the new Pullman Liverpool restaurant

If you’re heading to the gin show and want somewhere to eat before or after, or if you just fancy great food by the waterfront, give the restaurant at Pullman Liverpool, Kings Dock a try. It opened at the start of this month to non-guests as well as guests, from 5pm-10pm, and it’s looking lovely. There’s a fabulous afternoon tea every day too.

Sip cocktails with a view at Oh Me Oh My

Views really don’t come any more stunning than this one right opposite the Liver Birds. Take the lift up onto the Goodness Gracious roof garden and enjoy some calm by the waterfront while you try out the cocktail menu. Fingers crossed for good weather to go with it – Goodness Gracious is open all weekend from 12 for walk-ins only.

NML House of Memories is On The Road

National Museums Liverpool has just announced some of the highlights it’s got coming up, including the next stage of its amazing dementia awareness programme. House of Memories On The Road will take a pop-up immersive cinema/exhibition space out into communities and care homes so that people can experience everything from a trip on Liverpool’s overhead railway to a 1950s grocery shop.

Only a couple of matches on this weekend, but they’re likely to be good ones. Catch Wales v Denmark on Saturday and Netherlands v Czech Republic on Sunday, 5pm kick-offs. The One O’Clock Gun has launched on the Albert Dock

If you’re looking for a new favourite regular pub, then this could well be the one. From the team behind Maray, The One O’Clock Gun is all about old-fashioned hospitality, great ales, draught beers and wine, plus fantastic pub food including pies from the Great North Pie Co, locally sourced cheeseboards and charcuterie, and some top-class grilled cheese sandwiches.

Tickle the Ivories or play table tennis at Liverpool ONE

Everyone loves a bit of piano and Tickle The Ivories is back at Liverpool ONE. There are four pianos on College Lane, near Sugar House Steps, on the Terrace and in Peter’s Square, and you can either book a slot or just turn up and play. If you’re more sporty than musical, the table tennis tables are out too.

Theatre is back with Y’Mam at Everyman and Woke at the Playhouse

We can watch live theatre again at last and these are two really powerful productions to give you plenty to think about. At the Everyman, Y’Mam is an inspiring, brutally honest solo-show from Hollyoaks actor Majid Mehdizadeh. Over at the Playhouse, Woke tells the stories of two women, 42 years apart, involved in the civil rights struggle.

Give the kids a day out with a difference at Imagine That!

Kids love getting involved and stuck into things, so they’ll have a ball at Imagine That! Science and discovery centre in Wavertree Tech Park. Designed for under-11s, it’s got four different zones for them to explore, join in activities and watch shows – art, science, construction and imagination. There’s even a Slime Factory to make Liverpool’s slimiest slime!

Physical Fest launches across the city

Physical Fest, Tmesis Theatre’s international festival which celebrates exciting new contemporary physical theatre, is the only one of its kind in the UK and it’s here in Liverpool. Launching this weekend and running until the beginning of July, there’ll be live events at Unity Theatre, Toxteth TV, the Albert Walker Hall at the Linacre Methodist Mission in Litherland and outside the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Don’t miss your very last opportunity to catch Biennial Liverpool because this is the final weekend of exhibitions and installations across the city centre. Have a Sunday Roast at the Town Hall on Wavertree High Street 

If you’re around south Liverpool then get onto Wavertree High Street and treat yourself to a Town Hall roast with all the trimmings. Choose from beef, chicken or lamb, or a carrot and cashew wellington, then pile on the pigs in blankets side. Go for three courses and you can have chocolate orange brownie for pud too.
