Police launch appeal after teenager stabbed in Sefton Park

Detectives at Merseyside Police are appealing for information after a stabbing in Sefton Park last night.

At around 9.30pm last night (Thursday 24 February) officers were made aware of a stabbing that was reported to have happened in Sefton Park between 8 and 8.30pm.

Further reports established that two teenage boys riding push bikes were approached by a group of 10 men in dark clothing with their faces covered. The men then assaulted and stabbed one of the boys before they stole the black Carrera Vengeance mountain bike he was riding.

The boy was taken to hospital with injuries to his back and shoulder where he remains in a stable condition.

An investigation is underway and officers are currently carrying out CCTV and witness enquiries in the area.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said:

ā€œWe are in the early stages of an investigation into a shocking attack on a teenage boy that could have left him gravely injured.

ā€œIf you were nearby or in Sefton Park last night and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know. Similarly, if you have any CCTV or doorbell footage then please review it and come forward if you see anything.

ā€œThis is a serious incident that has happened in our community but Iā€™d like to reassure residents that our officers remain in the area carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area. Patrols have also been stepped up to reassure those in the area.

ā€œKnife crime has no place whatsoever in our communities and we rely on members of the public coming forward with information about such incidents to ensure the safety of families and residents. If you know anything about this incident, please let us know as soon as possible.

“Your information could be vital in tracking down those responsible and removing them from our streets.ā€
