Plan your week in Liverpool with these 13 things you can enjoy in the city.

We’re in that middle bit between Halloween and Bonfire Night, when there’s always loads going on and that’s definitely true in Liverpool right now. If you’re looking for things to do, here are 13 non-scary treats to take your pick from.

Blood Brothers continues

It’s like they’re going for a world record on standing ovations at the Empire at the moment, because there’s a massive one for every performance of Blood Brothers. This production has been getting five-star reviews so if you’ve not been for this run yet, don’t miss Willy Russell’s musical, on until Saturday.

So does River of Light

Another one to get on your to-do list, especially if you’re looking for something free to take the kids to. There are 10 different illuminated artworks on the theme of Unexpected Twist, dotted along a 2k route which covers the city centre and the waterfront. They’ll be lit from 5pm-9pm every night until Sunday.

World Gymnastics takes over the city 

You’d normally only get to see this incredible standard of gymnastics on TV, but the city is currently hosting the World Gymnastics Championships which means it’s right on our doorstep. There’ll be more than 400 athletes taking part from 74 countries, with the finals taking place on Tuesday.

Tonight Josephine has launched

If you’re looking for a new venue to try that’s bold and beautiful then look no further than Tonight Josephine, just opened on Hanover Street. It’s got gorgeous hot pink interiors full of Insta-perfect touches, a fabulous cocktail menu and it’s going all out to do the best bottomless brunch in the city.

There’s a Bonfire Night party at the Bombed Out Church

Fancy a bommy night party but don’t want it all going off in your garden? Get up to the Bombed Out Church on Saturday for Sparks & Scarves in the Garden Bar. It’s on from 6pm to 10pm, entry is free and there’ll be fire dancers, firepits, a magician, music and digital fireworks, plus mulled wine and hot chocs.

Celebrate 10 years of amazing cocktails at Berry & Rye

We’ve had a whole decade of Liverpool’s favourite secret cocktail bar, upstairs behind the black door on Berry Street. Celebrate with one (or more) of their signature cocktails like a Dirty Martini, a classic Negroni or Old Fashioned or an original fruity Lovelace.

Get away form it all at Calderstones Park

The historic 94-acre open space, which boasts ancient megaliths, and the 1000-year-old Allerton Oak is always a great place to get away from it all without having to travel too far outside town.

Watch the ducks and geese on the pond or wander through the Japanese Garden and forget the outside world for a while.

Sometimes, only a really big burger will do … and if that’s how you feel, head to Bold Street and get your fix at Honest Burgers. There’s a choice of free range chicken, beef, vegan or vegetarian so everyone’s covered, all served with homemade rosemary salted chips, slaw or salad.

One of the best things about autumn is that roasts are back on menus, and that’s good news if you’re a fan of the absolutely delicious one at The Watering Can in Greenbank Park. The set menu has starter, main course and a beer or glass of wine for £27, but make sure you book because it fills up fast.

Last few days to explore the Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder exhibition

Fans of Dr Who have only got this week to catch the Worlds of Wonder interactive exhibition on at Liverpool’s World Museum. It explores science and space travel through the Doctor’s six decades of adventures, and it features original artefacts, props and costumes. On until Sunday.

Homotopia launches in the city

Liverpool is proudly home to Homotopia, the UK’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ festival of arts and culture, and it’s back this November with an exciting programme of theatre, music and performance on the theme of Queer Joy Is A Protest at venues across the city centre.
