Filla Crack is throwing a big birthday bash as she turns 5 this weekend

The Liverpool drag scene has expanded in a glitter explosion over the past few years, with local queens going on to represent the city on Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK – like The Vivienne, Danny Beard, and Sister Sister.

Filla Crack is a talented drag artist based in Liverpool. Andrew McKay created the drag persona five years ago when it started “as a joke” for a friends “drag-themed” birthday party. Now she is getting ready to celebrate her 5th anniversary with a BANG!

Filla has said that drag is an “important part of the LGBTQ+ community”, and is a “pivotal entertainment form”.

Filla Crack said:

“Drag is a gender bending art form, it serves as a pivotal point of entertainment within the queer community. It inspires people who don’t feel comfortable conforming to gender norms.”

Taking a look back over the last five years, Filla is extremely proud of the body of work she already has behind her, she’s performed at LCR Pride, had a residency at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, and has collaborated with LGBTQ+ Festival, Homotopia.

Filla said:

“I am most proud of performing at Pride, it was a dream come true. During lockdown I collaborated with Homotopia where I went around Liverpool in a big rainbow bus and performed on people’s doorsteps.

“It was a really touching moment for me, with everything that was going on at the time with Covid, we all know how horrendous the initial stages of lockdown felt, this helped encourage people to remember their was life and positivity outside their four walls.

“People got to see other humans in the flesh from a safe distance, for like the first time in months. There was a real buzz around the city during it, I’m so happy I was a part of that.”

So what is next for Filla Crack? She said:

“I mean, there’s rumours I will be on [Ru Paul’s] Drag Race, but whether or not they’re true, I am going to continue to provide a safe space for people to enjoy drag, and continue to fight for our community to be visible.”

To celebrate 5 years of Filla, she’s putting on a show! Filla will be performing some of her most popular numbers and exciting new acts, there’ll also be performances from some of her favourite local queens.

Filla said:

“I don’t want any presents, this is a thank you to you for being so supportive over the years, but, knowing how some of you are, I have added an option to gift GYRO a donation, who support queer youth with weekly sessions and educate schools on safer spaces for young queer people.”

Joining Filla for her soiree will be: Nana Funk – a comedy burlesque performer – and drag queens Dross & Naya Thorn.
