12 Beer gardens around Liverpool City Region that you need to discover
Beer Gardens around LCR

The weather is hotting up and with sun forecast to shine for most of this week, now is the time to enjoy a spot of lunch or a cooling drink outdoors.

There are so many gorgeous pubs and restaurants with beer gardens to soak up the sun in and around the Liverpool city region.

Here are 12 of our favourites to try out in this sunny spell.

The Stanley Arms, Aughton

This family run pub has a stellar reputation for good food and great service. It also boasts one of the nicest beer gardens in the area.

Just off the A59 in Aughton, it’s easy to reach and always worth stopping off for some home cooked food, real ales, cocktails and more.

The menu is packed with traditional pub grub, cooked to highest standard and the beer garden is gorgeous.

Stretching out at the back of the pub in this pretty corner of West Lancs, there are loads of tables, and a covered area if you want to escape the heat of the day, or a few spots of summer rain.

Make sure you book in advance, especially on Sundays, as The Stanley Arms gets very busy.

Call ahead on 01695 423241.

Arthur’s of Aughton

Situated right next to Town Green train station in Aughton, Arthur’s is a great stop off for a cold drink in the sun.

The wine list here is impressive and there are lots of other good choices of drinks too. We also love the sharing platters, and it’s a perfect place for coffee and a cake as well.

The seating area on the pavement outside is a real sun trap in the early evening and the team have created a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Keep an eye on their socials for wine tasting nights too!

The Saracens Head, Halsall

Perched on the banks of the Leeds/Liverpool canal this watering hole in the West Lancs countryside is an idyllic venue to enjoy some outdoor food and drinks this summer.

Believe us, it’s definitely worth the drive out to Summerwood Lane, in this village on the outskirts of Ormskirk, to enjoy the gorgeous beer garden of this 100-year-old venue.

Enjoy a bite to eat from the tasty menu or sample cask ales or a glass of

award-winning wine.

The Lake House, Waterloo

A beer garden with a difference. Sitting on the edge of Crosby Marina, the outdoor area at the Lake House has stunning views to match its impressive food offering.

This is the perfect spot for a summer evening, watching the sun go down over Liverpool Bay as you sip a drink or enjoy a meal from the locally sourced menu.

You will also be able to watch people boating or kayaking as the Lake House sits right beside Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre.

Tipple, Ainsdale

The terrace at Tipple is a great place to grab a cold drink, a nice meal from the varied menu and do some serious people watching.

Just a short wander down from the train station, this bar has a large outdoor area wrapping round the building.

We highly recommend booking a table if you are heading to Tipple, whether that’s for drinks, brunch, lunch or an evening meal from the small plates menu.

The Hightown Pub and Restaurant, Hightown

Jump on the train to Hightown and enjoy the gorgeous beer garden just a stone’s throw from the station.

This traditional pub underwent a massive refurbishment in 2020 and the beer garden is one of the best in this part of Merseyside.

The menu is gorgeous, serving locally sourced food and the selection of drinks is very good too. The pub and beer garden are dog friendly, so bring your four-legged friends with you.

The Beer Station, Freshfield

More a pavement area than a beer garden, a seat outside The Beer Station guarantees you good drinks, friendly service and a view of one of Merseyside’s most desirable addresses.

While Victoria Road might be home to footballers and some of the area’s biggest houses, it’s also the address of this family run watering hole that has been open since 2016.

In that short time the Beer Station has become a favourite of locals and people stopping off for a drink after a walk on Formby beach before catching the train.

Real ales are a speciality but there is also a great selection of lagers, cider, wines and spirits.

The outside area is a real sun trap, and you can also grab some fish and chips across the road from The Good Catch to enjoy along with your drink if you’re sitting outside.

Queen’s Road Social, Formby

Boasting one of the cutest outdoor spaces in the area, the Queen’s Road Social has a small but perfectly formed beer/coffee garden.

It’s only been open since last year, but this cafĂ© and bar is proving a popular addition to the Formby social scene

We love the laid-back atmosphere and good service as well as the menu. It is definitely worth the short walk from Formby Station if you don’t live nearby.

Watch their socials for occasional evening events as well, including cheese tasting and make up demonstrations.

Queen’s Road Social is only open until 8pm, so get there early to make sure you don’t miss out.

The Devon Doorway, Heswall

This traditional Wirral pub has a gorgeous courtyard and garden where you can lap up the rays during the heatwave.

We love the feeling of tradition at this Wirral venue just as much as the brilliant menu. Whether you want to enjoy an al fresco breakfast, lunch with the kids, a Sunday roast or just a cooling drink this pub in Telegraph Road is a great place to do it.

The Boat House, Parkgate

Beer gardens with a view don’t come much more picturesque than The Boat House. You will be able to take in the dramatic views across the Dee Estuary while you enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.

The menu features everything from burgers and scampi to fish pie, feta salad and much more.

But trust us, whatever you decide to eat or dink, the views from this part of Wirral are simply wonderful and on a clear sunny day you won’t find much better.

Pesto at the Dibbinsdale Inn, Bromborough

There is a pretty outdoor seating area at the Dibbinsdale Inn where you can enjoy a drink, lunch or dinner from the Pesto restaurant menu.

The Italian small plates are highly recommended, as can the breakfast menu which also has great vegan and vegetarian options.

The Eccleston Arms Bar and Grill, St Helens

The garden at this popular pub has just been refurbished as part of a makeover of the whole venue, so now is a great time to give it a try.

If you really want to push the boat out, bottomless brunch is available every day for ÂŁ37.50 and looks a real treat.

But whatever you want to eat or drink, a visit to the Eccleston Arms beer garden, in Prescot Road, is a great way to enjoy the summer sun.
