Sam Quek is preparing to take on her latest challenge as she is announced as one of the contestants on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Liverpool’s very own Sam Quek is about to set the Strictly Come Dancing stage on fire, and here’s why we believe she’s going to become a superstar on the dance floor.

Sam Quek said:

“As a former hockey player I’m used to playing as part of a team, but the thought of dancing on the ballroom floor in front of a live audience is quite daunting.

“I’m chuffed to be a part of this legendary show and quickstep into the shoes of a performer. It feels absolutely surreal but I’m ready for every bit of the adventure.”

The Merseyside attitude

Born and raised in West Derby until moving to Wirral at age 5, Sam embodies the fierce and unshakeable spirit that Merseyside is known for.

Her relentless drive has carried her through her career, and now she’s ready to bring that same energy to the Strictly dance floor.

Sam has won 125 international caps for the England and Great Britain women’s hockey teams, and even secured a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics as part of Team GB. She knows exactly what it takes to reach the top.

Her drive and determination are unmatched, qualities that will be crucial as she trains for weeks to perfect her routines.

The discipline and commitment required to be an Olympic Gold Medalist are surely traits that will see her through the demanding rehearsals and performances on Strictly.

There’s no doubt that she will be able to tackle every cha-cha, waltz, and tango that comes her way.

Live TV experience

Sam is no stranger to the bright lights and pressures of live television.

She has co-hosted the BBC’s Tokyo Olympic Games breakfast programme and the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, is a Question Of Sport team captain, and has presented Morning Live on BBC ONE, to name a few of her credits.

It’s safe to say Sam is comfortable in front of the camera and knows how to handle live audiences with confidence.

Following in the dancing shoes of other Merseyside Strictly stars

Sam is following in the footsteps of local Strictly Come Dancing stars like Abbey Clancy. Abbey was the first celebrity to ever score a perfect 40, and dazzled the nation with her dance moves when she won in 2013.

Claire Sweeney also took part in the very first season of Strictly back in 2004 where she came 5th.

Ready for the challenge

Sam is no stranger to reality TV competitions, having made it to the final four in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and finished in third on Celebrity Masterchef.

These experiences have proven that she’s up for any challenge thrown her way… if you can manage being covered in cockroaches then you can manage anything else surely?

We can’t wait to see Sam compete on Strictly Come Dancing and bring home the win! 10’s across the board for us.
