Charity plane pull at Liverpool John Lennon Airport raises thousands for Alder Hey
2 hours ago
A charity plane pull organised by Liverpool John Lennon Airport has raised thousands of pounds for the Airport’s charity partner Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
Leading leisure airline Jet2.com provided one of its Liverpool John Lennon Airport based Boeing 737-800 aircraft to be used by various teams from within the airport community and across the region, who each had 60 seconds to see who could pull the 40 tonne aircraft the furthest along the taxiway at the airport.
The various teams had each paid to take part and raised their own sponsorship with all the money going towards equipment for Alder Hey’s new Surgical Neonatal Unit.
General and business aviation operator Ravenair kindly hosted the event close to their hangar at the airport with teams taken out to the aircraft one at a time to attempt their plane pull, with the eventual winner GSTS Security, pulling the aircraft a fantastic 55m in 60 seconds.
More money is still to be counted, but the event is expected to raise over £15,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
Carol Dutton, Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s HR & Community Director commented:
“This has been a fantastic event and we really appreciate the support given by a host of businesses who have helped to make this happen. In particular Jet2.com for providing one of their aircraft and to Ravenair for hosting us all and not forgetting all the teams who took part and helped us to raise over £15,000 for the Alder Hey Children’s Charity.”
Heather Jones, Liverpool Airport Station Manager for Jet2.com said:
“We are delighted to have played a part in this terrific event by providing an aircraft to be used for the plane pull and to have helped raise vital funds for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. It was fantastic to see so many people from across the airport and region come out and get involved for such a worthy cause. A big well done to the winning team for pulling the aircraft the furthest in just a minute!”
Ellie Freestone, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Alder Hey Children’s Charity said:
“We are so grateful to everyone who helped to make this exciting event happen. It was wonderful to see so many teams come together and get involved to support Alder Hey, the event certainly brought out some friendly competition! All of the money raised will go towards equipment for our new Surgical Neonatal Unit, helping us provide vital care to some of our smallest and most vulnerable patients. Thank you so much to all the teams who took part and to Liverpool John Lennon Airport for their ongoing support, we simply couldn’t do it without you!”
