Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman reimagined at the Liverpool Everyman
52 minutes ago
This autumn, the Liverpool Everyman breathes fresh life into Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, an enduring masterpiece of modern theatre.
Directed by Olivier Award-nominee Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, this powerful production explores a family pushed to its limits and a man wrestling with his own self-worth.
The stellar cast features Cyril Nri (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story) as Willy Loman, alongside Tayo Aluko (Call Mr. Robeson) as Uncle Ben, Adelaide Banks as The Woman, Emma Cater as Linda, Kiren Kebaili-Dwyer as Happy, Noah Olaoye as Bernard / Howard Wagner, Joe Speare as Charley / Stanley, and Lawrence Ubong Williams as Biff.
Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu said:
“Willy is a migrant and, like many migrants, is sold a dream, whether that be American or in the UK. You can make your mark, stake your claim – but the dream doesn’t always become reality, and there can be repercussions. Willy also battles generational conflict: how do fathers and sons relate, and if the gap is too wide, can they ever meet in the middle to fulfil their potential?

Book now and save →Liverpool, like Brooklyn (where the play is set), is rich in Irish and Nigerian heritage and in mixed-race populations. It’s important to me that this production is being performed in Liverpool, engaging with local audiences, and exploring what blackness and the migrant experience is across the UK.
There’s a reason ‘Death of A Salesman’ is widely considered a classic and one of the greatest American plays ever written.”

For generations, the promise of the American dream has led people to cross continents in search of a golden future—one that often feels just a few pay cheques out of reach. Willy Loman has spent his life chasing that exact promise, playing the part of the model immigrant and doing everything to be well-liked.
Now, as time slips away, he faces a family at breaking point and sons who refuse to follow his footsteps. Fynn-Aiduenu’s contemporary take seamlessly blends past and present to dissect a family in turmoil.
