Southport Beer Week set to make debut this May

Southport’s vibrant hospitality scene is set to take centre stage this spring with the launch of the first-ever Southport Beer Week, taking place from Thursday 22 May to Sunday 25 May 2025.

Organised in collaboration with Southport BID, Southport Pubwatch, and local venues, this new town-wide celebration of real ale and quality beer will bring together pubs and bars from across Southport town centre for four days of tastings, events, and community spirit.

With nineteen venues already confirmed and over 80 beers expected to be available throughout the weekend, the event promises to be a major highlight of the town’s cultural calendar.

Central to Southport Beer Week is the Ale Trail, encouraging visitors to explore different venues by sampling beers and collecting stamps in a dedicated Beer Week booklet. Participants who collect enough stamps will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 voucher to spend at a Southport business of their choice, along with additional runner-up prizes including locally brewed beers.

To mark the occasion, Southport Brewery has created a limited-edition beer, ‘Southport Beer Week Bitter’, which will be available at selected venues ahead of and during the event. Local independent brewers Hex Brewery will also unveil a brand-new, one-off beer on the opening day of the festival.

Throughout the festival, participating venues will host a diverse programme of activities:

• The Windmill, Seabank Road, will hold an outdoor BBQ and serve additional guest beers on Saturday 24 May.
• Tap & Bottles will feature a Rivington Brewery tap takeover and classic pub games.
• The Guesthouse will launch the festivities with a beer-themed quiz on Thursday 22 May.
• The Sir Henry Seagrave will host a ‘Dark Vs Light’ mini beer festival, showcasing both pale and dark ales.
• Live music will be featured across several venues, including The Masons Arms, The Fool, Kokomo, Punch Tarmey’s, and The Southport Coaster.
• The Grazing Lounge on Bold Street will offer street food and their signature ale-infused pies, made with beer from Southport Brewery.

Adding to the cultural dimension of the event, local historian David Walshe will lead a guided walking tour titled ‘Lost and Old Pubs of Southport’ on Saturday 24 May. Tickets for the walk are available online.

Southport Beer Week has been made possible through close collaboration between Southport BID, members of Southport Pubwatch, and numerous independent and national hospitality venues. The branding and promotional artwork for the event have been created by local artist Ruth Ryder, known professionally as Ruthie Illustrations.
