Merseyside Police launches new four-week road safety campaign
1 hour ago

The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Operation Spotlight will run throughout July.
The National Roads Partnership coordinates a series of operations throughout the year ensuring a regular national focus on road safety.
Operation Spotlight focusses on the #Fatal4, they are:
- Excessive speeds
- Distracted driving
- Drink and drug driving
- Failing to wear a seatbelt
The #Fatal4 are prevalent in road traffic collisions whereby a casualty has been killed, there is simply no room on our road for the #Fatal4, they pose unnecessary risk to life.
Merseyside Police, Liverpool Local Policing, Chief Inspector Steve Robinson pleads with drivers to keep our road users safe:
“Year on year we see collisions across Liverpool and Merseyside as a whole, resulting in serious injury and in some devastating circumstances, death.
“The heartache of losing a loved one is incomprehensible, and lifechanging for families, friends and the community.
“Serious collisions on our roads are not typically done with malice but that does not excuse responsibility. Reckless behaviours such as #Fatal4 offences plague our roads with unnecessary risk and drivers will be held accountable where such behaviours contribute to a collision.
“Across Merseyside the public can expect dedicated road safety operations with focus on the #Fatal4, we will use a series of tactics to enforce the road traffic act and engage with our community.
If you know someone who drives after consuming alcohol or drugs report them to Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers.
