Liverpool ONE welcomes huge summer line-up of sporting and music talent

Liverpool ONE is set to welcome record numbers of visitors this summer as it unveils a packed line-up of activities, performances and workshops.

From interactive sport sessions for youngsters and a chess takeover, to a city beach and family-friendly rides, plus a very special guest appearance from a talented local musician, Liverpool ONE is gearing up for a non-stop summer of events.

Kickstarting the calendar is the annual return of Tickle the Ivories. Now in its 15th year, the much-loved piano festival will be officially launched by winner of Channel 4’s The Piano, Brad Kella, who will take to the keys to showcase his skills.

Launching on Friday 11 July, the nine week-long event is a chance for both amateur and professional pianists to perform for visitors on one of five pianos located across Liverpool ONE.

During the day, a whole host of Tickle the Ivories regulars will return, including 90-year-old Gordon Fishwick, locally known as ‘Billy the Hat’. Bradbury Fields choir will perform to commemorate the late Frank McFarlane who was a regular pianist over the years and hosted several ‘pianothons’ and fundraisers for Bradbury Fields. Andrew Fisher, Johnny Larsen and Geoff Metcalfe will also perform during the day giving an extra reason to enjoy the much-loved piano festival.

Donna Howitt, Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE, said:

“For the last 15 years, Tickle the Ivories has been a staple in our summer calendar at Liverpool ONE, giving local talent a platform to showcase their incredible talents.

“We’ve uncovered some real stars thanks to our piano busking festival and we’re extremely proud to be welcoming some of them back this summer. Brad Kella’s story is an inspiration and we cannot wait to see him performing back where his journey began!”

Adding to the summer line-up at Liverpool ONE will be a special masterclass from former Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle.

Beth, whose impressive achievements include Olympic Bronze Medal, will host a free workshop for local children, demonstrating basic gymnastics and taking part in a Q&A on Thursday 24 July.

Her appearance will kick start six weeks of free sport-led sessions and activities at Chavasse Park throughout the school holidays, while the arrival of a city beach and family-friendly rides will ensure there’s something for everyone.

Also scheduled for the coming months is the return of Chess Fest on Sunday 20 July including chess lessons for children and social games. The free event has grown to attract more than 1,000 people, making it the biggest one outside of London.

This summer’s calendar will also feature free events such as Guided Nature Trail Tours on 29 July, 31 July and 2 August to bring the green spaces across Liverpool ONE closer to the public.

The upcoming schedule comes as Liverpool ONE predicts its busiest summer in five years, with an anticipated 10% uplift in footfall and sales.

Donna added:

“With the summer holidays coming up, we have created a calendar of events for the summer that will offer something for the whole family, introducing a range of free events that offer the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and open, green space.

“We’re expecting our busiest summer since the pandemic with double digit growth across footfall and sales, which is largely down to a number of major brands opening at Liverpool ONE this year, including beauty giant Sephora plus big names such as UNIQLO and Wingstop.

“The second half of 2025 is shaping up to be just as exciting for us, so we’re looking forward to unveiling our plans in the coming months.”
