The Florrie gives local kids an unforgettable adventure on the Welsh coast

A group of children from Liverpool swapped city streets for farm fields last week, thanks to a magical trip organised by volunteers at The Florrie.

The community-led hub in Dingle took the group on a week-long adventure to Treginnis Isaf in Wales, home of Farms for City Children, where they experienced coastal walks, spotted dolphins and seals, and got stuck into life on a real working farm.

From milking goats and feeding donkeys, pigs, chickens and turkeys, to holding baby chicks and grooming the animals, the kids didn’t just see the farm – they became a part of it. They even rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on with composting duties. For many of the children, it was their first time away from home on a trip like this – and it’s safe to say the memories will last a lifetime.

The week included a meteor shower, beach days, evening BBQs, and helping out in the vegetable patches. Alongside learning about farming and nature, they built new friendships and embraced fresh experiences that many hadn’t had the chance to enjoy before.

Laurence Fenlon, Chief Operations Officer at The Florrie, said:

“We want to say a huge thank you to the Steve Morgan Foundation for making this trip possible, and to all the brilliant staff at Farms for City Children. They created something really special that the kids will be talking about for years. At The Florrie, we’re proud to deliver these kinds of life-changing opportunities – but we can’t do it alone. We rely on donations, big and small, to keep making things like this happen. Every donation helps, not just for us as a charity, but for the families who benefit.”

Farms for City Children has been welcoming young people since 1976, giving more than 100,000 children the chance to connect with food, farming and the natural world.

The Steve Morgan Foundation, founded in 2001 by businessman and philanthropist Steve Morgan CBE, helps fund projects that make a real difference to communities across the region – including this one, which brought smiles, confidence and a real sense of adventure to Liverpool kids.
