A Greener Future honours the M&S Bank Arena with Highly Commended status for embedding sustainability into every aspect of operations.
The certification was officially announced as venue hosts Accelerator City event.
M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, part of the ACC Liverpool Group, has been successfully certified as a ‘Greener Arena 2025 – Highly Commended’ by A Greener Future, recognising the venue’s industry-leading sustainability practices. A Greener Future is a globally recognised non-profit that helps events, venues and tours cut their environmental impact through independent accreditation, advice and sustainability leadership. Their Greener Arena scheme assesses venues across a wide range of criteria, including resource use, emissions, accessibility, biodiversity protection and community engagement. This accolade highlights arenas that prioritise sustainability as a key part of their strategy, consistently reduce negative environmental and social impacts and innovate solutions beyond the industry average.
The recognition celebrates venues that show a passionate commitment to improving practices, responsible resource use, protection of local and wider natural environments, and positive social and community engagement. The certification demonstrates that world-class events can be delivered in an environmentally responsible way.

Claire O’Neill, CEO & Co Founder of A Greener Future, said:
“Venues undergo a rigorous assessment process to be certified as a Greener Arena by AGF. To achieve Highly Commended in their first year of application really is testament to their tenacity, and the importance M&S Bank Arena place upon sustainability. Congratulations, and hats off to the whole team in Liverpool.”
The announcement coincided with Expedition Two, hosted at ACC Liverpool in partnership with Liverpool City Council and Accelerator City. Building on the success of Expedition One and Act 1.5 Presents at the M&S Bank Arena last November, Expedition Two brought together start-ups, scale-ups and innovators to explore new ideas to support sustainable business growth.
The initiative also aligns with Liverpool’s recognition as the UN’s first Accelerator City for Climate Action, reinforcing the city as a global leader in sustainable innovation and climate-focused business development.
Eddie Dos Santos, Director of Operations and Venue Management at the ACC Liverpool Group, said:
“Receiving the ‘Highly Commended’ Greener Arena 2025 accreditation from A Greener Future is a huge milestone for us. It recognises the hard work our teams have put into embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations—from energy and waste management to community engagement and environmental protection. This accreditation not only validates our approach but also keeps us on track to achieve carbon net zero by 2030, setting a benchmark well ahead of industry standards. We’re proud to demonstrate that live events and sustainability can go hand in hand, and we hope it inspires others in the sector to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
