Liverpool was sparkling with festive cheer this week as Claire House Children’s Hospice welcomed supporters to its Christmas Carol Concert.

Families, friends, supporters, volunteers and neighbours from across the city joined together for an evening filled with music and Christmas spirit.

St John The Evangelist Church in Knotty Ash glowed with twinkling Christmas trees, as everyone enjoyed the festive sounds of Allerton Brass and the beautiful singing of the Liverpool Show Choir.

Talented musicians filled the church with traditional carols and uplifting Christmas favourites including Winter Wonderland, The Snowman (Walking in the Air) and Silent Night.

Between the music, guests paused to think about the seriously and terminally ill babies, children and young adults cared for by Claire House, with many saying it was a moving way to start the festive period.

Among those giving a reading was bereaved mum Amanda McEgan, who was joined in the church by husband Paul. Their daughter Izzy was supported by the hospice after being diagnosed with cancer aged 19 years old.

The Christmas Carol Concert, organised by and in aid of Claire House, raised awareness and funds for the charity, which supports children and families across Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales.

Rachel Handley, Events fundraiser at Claire House, said:

“Christmas is a time of festive fun and joy, and our first Christmas Carol Concert in Knotty Ash was all those things!

“Seeing the Liverpool community come together, singing side by side, was amazing. The support we receive at events like this helps us continue to be there for every child and family who desperately needs us.”

Rachel added: “These events not only celebrate the festive season but also bring people together to shine a light on the vital support our hospice provides to families across Liverpool and beyond.

“A huge thank you to our sponsors, Wealth at Work, and to everyone who joined us in the church, which is just down the road from our Liverpool site in West Derby.”

Claire House has a site on Liverpool’s Honey’s Green Lane, close to Alder Hey, offering counselling, groups and day care, alongside its full hospice in the Wirral.
