Liverpool FC, Kodansha and John Barnes to mark World Book Day with city-wide school tour

Liverpool FC is teaming up with official publishing partner Kodansha to celebrate World Book Day on March 5 with a special mobile library tour across primary schools in the Liverpool City Region.

The Reds will be taking storytelling on the road, visiting three LFC Foundation partner schools to help spark a love of reading in young people across the area.

Club legend John Barnes will be joined by influencer Yombo as they travel with a Kodansha-branded mobile library, meeting pupils, chatting about books and encouraging creativity through storytelling.

As part of the visit, 500 books will be donated, with every child receiving one to take home — making sure the impact lasts long after World Book Day itself.

The tour will finish at Anfield, where the mobile library will open to families and supporters from 3pm to 5pm on Thursday March 5. Fans heading down will also be able to meet Mighty Red and take part in games hosted by Barnes and Yombo, with prizes up for grabs including signed LFC merchandise, Kodansha goodies and other exclusive items.

Kodansha, one of the world’s largest publishing companies, has made promoting reading and creativity a key part of its partnership with Liverpool FC. Alongside World Book Day celebrations, the company also supports the LFC Foundation’s Creative Works programme, helping young people across the region build confidence through literacy and creative expression.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment between the club and Kodansha to make books more accessible and inspire the next generation to discover the joy of reading.
