The Restaurant Tour that takes you on a tasty trip around the city
33 minutes ago
There are loads of ways to discover more about the city, from bus tours to boat tours, and treasure hunts that offer clues to uncover hidden gems.
But a popular new Restaurant Tour invites you to ‘dine and drink’ your way across Liverpool making it one of the tastiest ways to get around.
Running every three months – with one this weekend – the Restaurant Tour offers to serve up the perfect Sunday afternoon, with visits to selected eateries, where all you need to do is show up and enjoy!
You sample six dishes in six restaurants, each perfectly paired with a matching drink, and it’s all fully arranged, already paid, and guided at your own pace with the Restaurant Tour app.
The Restaurant Tour starts at 12 noon until 5pm, and the restaurants set to shine a light on Liverpool’s culinary prowess this Sunday are Chamber 36 City Centre in Berry Street, La Finca Eivissa in Back Colquitt Street, So Salsa in Bold Street, Indian Tiffin Room in Duke Street, and The London Carriage Works and The Pen Factory, both in Hope Street.
It’s the third time The Pen Factory has been part of the tour and general manager Matt Haycox says it works really well.

Matt says:
“It’s a virtual sell out and we are expecting around 300 people, around 50 people each sitting, and it’s going to be good.”
“We usually do a meat dish and vegan dish with two recommended drinks. In the past, we’ve done vermouth or wine, and we do get recommendations from the organisers themselves based on what might be missing off the tour.
“So if none of the restaurants have done a fish dish, it might be recommended that we do one, but you don’t have to and it’s left entirely up to us. It’s a great introductory tour to the city especially for people new to it, like tourists, and we get returning customers to the event. Last time we did it, there was someone who’d been on the same restaurant tour the time before, and it’s really good. We first did it in June 2025 and had 137 visitors, and in October, when we had 86. The comments we’ve had from people have been super-positive and it’s something we’re happy to be involved in. It shows people what’s available and highlights independent restaurants like ours in Liverpool. We change our menu seasonally and so even if people do return, they know it’s going to be something different which is another positive.”
Anyone wanting to book a restaurant tour just needs to go on the website, pick a date and let the organisers know about any dietary needs.
You can log into the app to view your personalised route and the restaurant lineup, and then you turn up on your chosen afternoon, arrive at your first stop and scan your ticket.
When you’ve finished at one stop, you just move to the next restaurant at your own pace, ‘no waiting for bills or awkward goodbyes’!
Liverpool is one of 19 places across the UK where The Restaurant Tour is available.
Founder Wouter Dijkstra started Restaurant Club in his native Netherlands when he and his now wife, Laura, each had restaurants and where he, especially, was looking to create more visibility.
Wouter said:
“I tried discounts once or twice, but there was a mismatch between my restaurant and the target group I was aiming for. So we started to look at creative ways to get people through the door; to get to know them, and them us in a more attractive way.”
In the first edition in Haarlem, just outside Amsterdam where Wouter’s restaurant was, the Restaurant Tour was organised with 10 restaurants and sold 750 tickets ‘which was madness – good fun but too much. Wouter realised it was better to reduce it to six restaurants and a maximum of 300 visitors.
In 2011-12 Wouter decided to sell his restaurant and develop the Restaurant Tour with his father, first in the Netherlands where it’s available in 25 cities and then, in 2024, the UK with the first in Birmingham. Liverpool came soon after.
He added:
“It’s important for us, the restaurants and visitors, that if you do the Restaurant Tour, you want to have a restaurant experience in every restaurant, and have time to sit down, have table service, just like when you regularly go to a restaurant.”
“Liverpool has a great foodie scene and a lot of great restaurants. I have been there twice now and it’s one of my favourites of the UK cities.
“It was the second city I visited, and I loved it because it has character. It reminded me of Rotterdam, another harbour town. There are visitors but also a local community that loves good food and quality.
“I really love Liverpool and we have a great tour there, and there are some other great restaurants we’d like to get involved.”
