This Metquarter store is championing over 60 independent brands

Bethan Flanagan’s store in Liverpool is All Over The Shop … and that’s just the way she wants it because it’s filled with 62 independent brands, handpicked because ‘they make the things we actually love’.

All Over The Shop opened in Metquarter in January last year and since then it’s become a fan-favourite with visitors and city centre shoppers.

You can find everything from hand-crocheted fashion items and carefully crafted jewellery to vintage wear, gorgeous gifts – and it’s the only in-store stockist of Get Boosted Boob Tape in the area!

Creative Bethan, 33, says: “There’s a little bit of everything. The idea is that, if you come in, it doesn’t matter what your style is or what you’re into, you’ll find something that’s just for you.

“It’s a warm and friendly space that means you can have a walk round, have a potter, and stay a little longer … it’s like a little day out.”

She adds: “Everyone here is passionate about what they do and they care. It’s become a really supportive community for the traders and it’s the customer who benefits from that, with great customer service, amazing hand-designed goodies and, if they want it, custom made things too.”

It’s an incredible achievement for Bethan who says: “I never dreamed I’d ever have a store in the city centre of Liverpool, but it’s a great location and the Metquarter has been really helpful and supportive.”

Bethan – who has her own brand Buy By Bethan reimagining fashion pieces – began her working career in recruitment after studying fine art at university, but she’s always been crafty and creative with clothes.

“When I was younger me and my mum used to bleach jeans or cut up t-shirts and stuff and I’ve always been into wearing clothes that are a little bit different and a little bit out there.”

It was during Covid when Bethan was furloughed from her job that her hobby spiralled into a new career that’s also created a home and help for others like her.

“I started tie-dying tracksuits and bleaching them and people stopped to ask for them, and then I began hand-painting and embellishing items, and it all just snowballed,” she explains.

“After re-working different items, I sold them online and I developed quite a big following on TikTok. I later got a studio with Make CIC at North Docks, and it was them who introduced me to the Metquarter.

“I’d sold stuff at markets but there wasn’t anywhere for people to try things on there, and if it rained everything got wet. I’d also be surrounded by people selling small gifts and homeware items, when I thought it would be nice to be surrounded by people selling similar things to me and realised too that there must be other people like me!”

There was.

Bethan launched two pop-ups at Metquarter in the run up to Christmas 2024 – and they were so successful, it led to the store that she’s so proud of now.

“It’s a fashion and accessory concept store which could dress you from head to toe,” she smiles. “I want it to be that one-stop shop.

“We’ve got statement designs and upcycled treasures, all under one roof in the old MAC store.

“You’ll find something different and you’ll get inspired; and you can come in and spend your pocket money or really treat yourself to something special.”

She says: “We have a WhatsApp group for all the traders and it’s nice to help each other and build a real community among ourselves, but more than anything it’s nice to let to people across the city know we’re here offering something for everyone that’s unique.”
