Knowsley Pride returns for third year with week long events programme
2 hours ago
Knowsley Pride returns this August, bringing a week of community-led events to the borough before culminating in a celebration at Court Hey Park.
The week begins on Sunday 2nd August with the 18th annual vigil for Michael Causer, the 18-year-old murdered in a homophobic attack in 2008 whose death sparked the return of Pride celebrations across the region after more than 15 years. From there, a series of community events will take place across the borough throughout the week, supported and facilitated by One Knowsley, before the week closes with Rainbow in the Park on Saturday 8 August.

Taking place in the Courtyard at Court Hey Park from 12pm to 2pm, Rainbow in the Park will bring the community together for two hours of performance, workshops and celebrating the wider community. Creative direction comes from Darren Suarez, founder of House of Suarez, with a programme that includes community workshops with breakout performances on the day, a performance from House of Suarez, singer Daisy Gill performing a Taylor Swift set, and music throughout from DJ Dave Brennan, with the event being hosted by Paul Doyle, director of Leap Dance Festival.

“Knowsley Pride has grown into something very special, with this year feeling like another step forward. It’s not about one event, it’s about a whole week of activity that reflects the breadth and strength of this community; from the vigil on Sunday through to Rainbow in the Park on Saturday, every part of this week belongs to Knowsley. We’re proud to be the people who get to bring it together.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said:
“Knowsley Pride is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together and celebrate the diversity that makes our communities stronger. Throughout the week, residents, community groups and organisations will come together to show that Knowsley is a place where everyone is welcome, valued and respected.

Events like Pride help build understanding, strengthen connections and reinforce our shared commitment to creating inclusive communities where everyone feels they belong.”
Knowsley Pride 2026 takes place from 2nd to 8th August. The vigil for Michael Causer takes place on Sunday 2 August at the Courtyard, Court Hey Park, from 6pm, and is free and open to all.
Rainbow in the Park follows on Saturday 8th August, also at Court Hey Park, from 12pm to 2pm.
Full details of community events taking place across the week will be announced across social media when and where appropriate.
