Summer’s here and it looks like being a scorcher – and we don’t just mean because of the sunny weather.

World Museum Liverpool knows the heat is on when it comes to keeping the kids happy throughout the holidays, so there’s loads for families and little ones to do at the William Brown Street hot spot.

From the delights of dinosaurs to underwater creatures and the stars in the sky, there’s a packed programme of events and activities.

So if you’re planning a great day out while the kids are off school, World Museum is your passport to a perfect summer season …

Dino Takeover

A large dinosaur costume interacts with children at the Dinomania event outside the World Museum Liverpool.

From July 22 until August 27, World Museum’s prepared for some prehistoric power play when the dinosaurs take over for summer. Roar-some family fun includes some special workshops, craft sessions, storytelling, fun shows, museum trails and, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the chance to come face-to-face with giant dinosaurs like Zuki the Stegosaurus and Salsa the Megalosaurus!

The Dinosaurs and Natural World Gallery’s been given a brand-new name after a massive refurbishment with new showcases and a more immersive experience that brings the natural world to life. Visitors can explore thick rainforests, the savannahs of Africa, and the frozen, icy worlds of the Arctic, Antarctica and Patagonia as well as saying hello to their inhabitants, and brave replicas of fearsome dinosaurs.

NML at 40 exhibition

It’s 40 years since National Museums Liverpool was launched, and to celebrate it’s created an amazing anniversary exhibition that runs at World Museum until February 2027 – so you can dig, dive and delve into four decades of Liverpool’s rich cultural history. Incredible exhibits include a telegram from the captain of Carpathia – the vessel that rescued the survivors of the Titanic – to Cunard, Liverpool; a jacket from the legendary dance club night, Cream; the original door from the Hillsborough Justice Campaign Shop, and Albert Einstein’s landing card!

Dive into an underwater adventure at the Aquarium. With bigger tanks, new species and immersive projections it’s a great place to visit, and you can see hermit crabs, starfish, dogfish, archerfish and more. You can even meet Marge, World Museum’s playful lobster who peeks out of her cave to keep a beady eye on passers-by, and go on an amazing Behind The Scenes Tour.

Planetarium

The sky’s not the limit at the popular and pioneering planetarium – only the second of its kind inside a museum – where stargazers, budding astronomers, or anyone interested in our incredible universe, can marvel at its magic and mysteries. You can learn all about our solar system and kids especially will love shows like ‘The Little Star That Could’ and ‘Forward To The Moon’.

Gift shop and café

World Museum’s café dates back to 1901 and features original artwork which is worth a look in itself – and even better while savouring a bite to eat before or after your visit (or both?!). It serves things like scouse, jacket spuds, freshly made salads, and gorgeous cakes (and it’s always cake O’clock somewhere). And if you want to get a memento of your visit, check out the fab gift shop, where you can find all sorts of prints, books, stationery and more – and some brand new dino plush toys that you’ll definitely want to cuddle up to.
