10 Reasons why you should visit Liverpool with your kids

Our city has so much to offer young visitors, all year round.

Famed for its nightlife, stunning architecture and maritime history, Liverpool is a brilliant city break destination, but it’s not just fun for the grown ups. Boasting tonnes of green space, free attractions, jaw-dropping events (did someone say GIANTS?) and affordable, fun activities, our city is one big playground, just waiting to be explored. From dining to skate parks, pirates to super cars and all the music festivals you can handle, this is why you should visit Liverpool with your kids and make some incredible memories….

1 – Free Stuff!

The Guide Liverpool The Liverpool Irish Festival 2016

We’ve got more museums, art galleries and visitor centres than you can shake a city map at and the best bit is, they’re free! Explore our city museums, galleries and visitor centres and get hands on with history, crafts and of course, music! From free film screenings, to making your own works of art, puppet shows and dressing up, you’ll find something to keep little hands busy, without spending a penny. More on Liverpool Museums here.

2 – Adventures on the High Seas (or Dock!)

Our city’s maritime history is fascinating but little ones might prefer to know what they can get up to on the Dock now rather than hundreds of years ago! Royal Albert Dock Liverpool is a hive of daily activity. From festivals such as Pirate on the Dock to dragon boat racing and paddle boarding at Liverpool Watersports Centre, exploring The Danny and Zebu ships and who doesn’t love a little trip on the Ferry ‘cross the Mersey? All aboard! Click here for what’s on at the Albert Dock.

3 – Fresh Air Fun

Half Term in Liverpool

Liverpool is blessed with tonnes of green space and beaches. From Jumping Jacks parties at the beautiful Palm House, Sefton Park to the high ropes and skate park at Otterspool and making dens in the woodland at Croxteth Country Park, if you’ve got the bike/scooter/skates, we’ve got miles of pathways to keep you entertained. The Reader at Calderstones offers up tonnes of story time fun and did you know you can build sandcastles here too? Formby, Crosby and over on the Wirral, there’s enough sand to build a whole new city! More on our city parks and beaches here.

4 – Big Taste, Small Price

When it comes to feeding your rabble, affordability and quality don’t always match up, but here in Liverpool, we can offer something for every diet and budget. From make your own pizzas at Gusto, to kids eat free at Jamie’s Italian, £5 lunch boxes stuffed full with buttermilk chicken from Yard & Coop plus ramen, sushi, curry and burgers with Cuppa Chups lollipops in the top. Who’s hungry?

5 – We’ll Take You To New Heights

Liverpool is a visually stunning city, our skyline known and recognised the world over, but not many kids we know are that into architecture! We can however, give them a birds eye view. See our city from the Radio City Tower, the roof top terrace at Central Library, or if you’re feeling really brave, the very top of the Anglican Cathedral Bell Tower to catch a sunset they’ll never forget. 6 – Super Hero Meet Ups

Liverpool has become a magnet for superhero fans in the last year and with the return of Liverpool Comic Con in early 2019, we’re also attracting some HUGE stars too. The city now boasts VR centres, gaming cafes, all manner of retro and mixed genre merchandise stores, Anime meet ups and the chance to meet Ironmen, yep that’s Iron MEN. Head to Crosby Beach and get up close and personal with our collection of Tony Stark’s! Click here for our Comic Con coverage and get prepping your costume for 2019.

Our huge shopping mall is packed full of stores such as Disney, Build A Bear, Paperchase, LEGO and The Entertainer, plus there’s ODEON, Jungle Rumble Adventure Gold and a nature Trail to explore at Chvasse Park too. If you only need one reason to visit Liverpool, it has to be our culture offering. In 2018 alone the city has played host to Hollywood blockbuster films, an ancient Chinese army, a live and loud motor sport circuit, superstars such as Katy Perry, David Guetta, Shawn Mendes, Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne and all the kids favourite character from Paw Patrol to Peppa Pig. But that’s not all, did you know the Giants are set to return this Autumn?

9 – Getting from A to B

We’ll bet you didn’t know that travelling around the city region was so affordable! A family ticket with Merseyrail (a family of 5, up to 2 adults and 3 children, off peak) can travel for just £11 per day, which means trips to Southport, West Kirby or New Brighton are just one ticket away. Arriva North West offer a brilliant bus service across the city region too, with free wifi and mobile charging points, plus kids all day travel for less than £3.

10 – Room For Everyone

Like our events, activities and food offering, Liverpool’s family accommodation offering is varied and affordable too. From the Liverpool Youth Hostel and chic Air BNB city apartments, to family suites at top named hotel and if you’re feeling flush, an entire three bedroom house in the heart of the city! Our faves for a family stay include Epic Apart Hotel, Aloft Hotel and Crowne Plaza City Centre. Click here for TripAdvisor’s top family friendly hotels in Liverpool.
