Liverpool comes together to support family and friends of Anthony Condron

Our city has united once again this weekend as the news of another senseless loss of life, shocks us all.

29-year-old Anthony Condron was enjoying a night out in Liverpool with his girlfriend and mates on Friday night and was tragically killed following an altercation at Maya Bar in the early hours of Saturday 3rd February 2018. Merseyside Police launched a murder investigation and have since arrested three men in connection with Anthony’s death.

Over the weekend social media was alight with heartfelt messages in memory of Anthony, who was clearly a genuine lad, loved by all who knew him. We updated our Facebook page with information from Merseyside Police, as we got it and in just a few hours the posts had reached more than 250,000 people and received countless messages from those wanting to share their memories of Anthony.

Peter Phillips commented: “I used to coach Anthony at Whiston Juniors up to u16s and I can only say he was absolutely brilliant lad, not a bad bone in him, never stopped laughing and joking from the moment he turned up at Football until he went home. I’m devastated by this news.”

Former workmate Steven Swann said: “Was a pleasure to have worked with you mate and enjoy some good times at Mccanns, only saw you a few months ago. R.I.P mate.”

Fellow Everton fans plan to pay tribute to Anthony at next weekends fixture against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park, when at the 29th minute, they want the whole stadium to stand and applaud in his memory. As news spread across the north west and made national headlines, our city showed its strength, unity and sympathy for Anthony’s family and friends by supporting a dedicated Go Fund Me page, set up by close family friend, Catherine Skelhorne.

On Sunday we shared the Gofundme page total as just over £5,000, and as news has spread, more and more people have added messages of sympathy and support and kindly donated to the fund, which has now passed the £11,000 mark.

Merseyside Police has now (Monday 5th February 2018) charged three men in connection with Anthony’s murder and is still appealing for witnesses with information to contact 0151 777 4044.

Anthony’s family and friends have released the following tributes;

Dean Condron, the brother of Anthony, said: “My brother Ant , I am glad you are my brother and an uncle to my two kids , you know you will never be forgotten and I will make sure my Lily-Rose and Pixie know what a top man, brother, uncle and friend you were. Xxx”

Paul, the cousin of Anthony, said: “Anthony was the character of the family, always making us laugh and smile, fashionably late to all family gatherings. If only he was late to that bar Friday night.”

Ashleigh, the cousin of Anthony, said: “Our Anthony was and always will be, one of the most incredible gentleman you would ever get to meet. Inseparable we were Ant, brother and sister we would say! Those cowards have taken the heart of our family and we will be forever empty because of this.” 

Mike, a friend of Anthony’s, said: “Ant couldn’t see you without letting you know you were a massive part of his life. He made no apology for pouring his heart out to you whenever you were in his company. He had the biggest and purest heart of anyone you could ever meet and would do anything to make you feel good. His biggest of many gifts was laughter. He was as driven as anyone I’ve ever met but his biggest priority was fun. For everyone. No part of anything in our lives will ever be the same without Ant. The greatest friend/brother who ever lived. But 29 years was not long enough. We’ve been robbed.”

Adam Mannion, a friend of Anthony’s, said: “Anthony was our best mate. I say ‘our’ because I guarantee there are so many people who called him their best friend. He made an effort every single day to speak to people, check they were ok and how their work and family was. Words cannot explain, the way you improved all of our lives and the hole that is now left in your space. My life is going to forever be a darker place without you Anthony- I don’t think I will ever laugh again the way you made me laugh. You had a massive heart and my family loved you, I know you knew that. x”
