9 Reality TV shows we’d bring back instead of X Factor
7 years ago
So X Factor series 14 has begun, Strictly and Dancing on ice return this weekend and frankly…..we’re a bit bored!
Saturday night TV has long consisted of talent and reality shows as family friendly viewing evolved from the likes of the Generation Game and Strike it Lucky (go on….do the hot spot sound haha), and as series after series of young hopefuls have taken to the telly box to win the opportunity of a lifetime, a life of stardom, we’ve grown a bit tired of the same old format and sob stories.
Alright so some of the X Factor auditions are absolutely hilarious, the judges spats get more outrageous and Simon’s kecks remain high, but we’ve had a little look back at some of the best reality tv shows that we wish were making a comeback instead.
Here’s 9 reality TV shows we want to see make a comeback…..
1 – Shipwrecked
Shipwrecked first aired on Channel 4’s T4 platform in 2000 and was a bit of a ground breaker because there was no prize or competitive format to the show. Basically 16 men and women age 16-24 were chucked on an Island in the Pacific for two months and told to get on with it. They slaughtered a pig, learned how to fish, partied hard, screamed at flash flooding and scary weather, argued a fair bit, got semi naked a lot and some coupled up. Only 7 contestants completed the challenge and had the best tan lines EVER!
2 – Real World
The Real World kicked off in the US in 1992 and aired on MTV.
3 – The Villa
4 – Cake Boss 2009
5 – Castwaway
6 – An Idiot Abroad 2010

How utterly hilarious would it be to get Karl Pilkington in to the White House? Or chatting to Jeremy Corbyn at a Blackpool rally, or getting his eye brows bladed in town? An Idiot Abroad was possibly on of the best reality/documentaries ever filmed with Karl regularly bricking it having been thrown into scary (but brilliant) situations on his cultural quest. His phone calls to Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervaise alone are hysterical. What would you line Karl up to do?
7 – Paris Hilton’s British Best Friend
This 2009 ITV series was so bad, it was good. Contestants battled it out to essentially kiss Paris Hilton’s ass while the cameras rolled. We’re not sure which bit was more humiliating, Paris’ obscene wealth and lack of regard for the contestants emotional welfare, or the fact that they absolutely loved it!? The episode where the contestants were tasked with ‘pulling a hottie’ was one of the best and Paris’ voice overs are like something from ‘Dream Phone’. Claws out girls, watch the drama unfold above.
8 – The Salon
