The Brink set to host tenth annual candlelit vigil and remembrance event

The Brink is set to host this year’s annual Merseyside Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Event on November 10, marking a decade since it first took place.

On the evening, the Parr Street venue will become a refuge for the general public and the recovery community alike to gather and remember those lost to addiction and alcoholism.

The event, which is presented by parent charity Action on Addiction, is held year-on-year to allow loved ones to share personal reflections, readings and testimonies.

Head of Service at Action on Addiction Merseyside Karen Hemmings said: “Each year, Action on Addiction’s Merseyside Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Event brings solace to those who have lost a loved one to addiction. In the last 10 years, we have welcomed members of the recovery community and their families to share their own experiences and find comfort in each other.

“As Liverpool’s first and only dry bar, The Brink is a pivotal place for those affected by addiction and it is only fitting that the tenth Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Event is held in a venue that plays such an important role within the local community.”

As Action on Addiction’s flagship social enterprise, all of The Brink’s profits go directly back into the community to support the recovery of those who have suffered as a result of alcoholism and addiction. In order to provide those in recovery with an opportunity to re-enter the workforce, a number of staff at the revolutionary venue have battled and overcome addiction themselves.

General Manager of The Brink Carl Bell said: “While the Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Event is a time for reflection and remembering the lives of those who have lost their battle with addiction, it’s also important to recognise that there are stories of hope and inspiration from all of those who have lost a loved one or been affected in any way. The Brink welcomes the general public to attend this year’s candlelight vigil and stand in solidarity as a community.

“All year round, The Brink aims to help people get back on track after battling and overcoming drug and alcohol addictions and has witnessed journeys of recovery that act as a beacon of light for all those suffering. We hope that the number of positive life transformations will continue to increase across Merseyside and further afield.”

The Merseyside Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Event is open to the public and will take place at The Brink on November 10.
