A Food Lover’s Guide To April in Liverpool

Spring is here and you’re probably eating your weight in chocolate right about now? Yeh, us too!

Well, as summer is just around the corner, you won’t want to be eating out too much will you? Rubbish! Of course you will! The only difference is that the food might be a little lighter, the drinks a little more refresher and hopefully we’ll be able to sit outside. Here’s a little guide on how to do that this April in Liverpool.

Food/Drink Event of the Month – Liverpool Spring Food & Drink Festival

Was it really going to be anything else? The Liverpool Food & Drink Festival returns to Sefton Park on 28th and 29th April for it’s spring edition. The weekend is set to celebrate “all things spring” with activities such as yoga and massages, supplied by local small businesses, family fun and, of course, food & drink to fill you up to burst. The park will have a Fish Fayre, Gin Garden, Street Food, Sweet Treats, Café’ and, get this, a Prosecco Tent. Prices vary from £7 for a day ticket to £11.50 for the whole weekend, prices that will increase if purchased on the day. That’s why you should get your tickets here, now!

Kitchen of the Month – IZAKAYA x The Baltic Market

Castle Street’s IZAKAYA is arguably the best place in the city to get your hands on some sushi, whether that is the seafood or vegan variety. Since 8th February, IZAKAYA has been a resident of the cutting edge Baltic Market, but it only there for 10 weeks. As we approach the tail end of it’s stall, we want to make sure that you don’t miss the chance to snap up some oriental grub when enjoying the hipster market. Whether you’re in it for Tofu Teriyaki, the Pork Belly Boa or the Tempura Prawns, this food is perfect for snacking on whilst socialising and, of course, tastes absolutely amazing. Get down there this weekend to sample and support local eateries.

(M)Eatery of the Month – Berry Street Kitchen

Taking up residency in what was once Rack & Dollar, Berry Street Kitchen has proved a hit amongst punters. BSK does a little of everything but specialises in hearty, meaty dishes. The 16oz steaks stand out on the menu, however, 4-hour Slow cooked maple glazed ham with fried duck egg, chips, salad and pineapple chilli chutney is the star of the show with a slow cooked beef & Guinness stew topped with puff pastry taking the second place. There is something for those in your party who don’t eat the good stuff such as a mushroom burger and Aubergine Parmi, so they can enjoy that whilst you try and decide how you want those steaks cooked.

Café of the Month – Dig-In

Located above one of the cities trendiest shops, Resurrection on Bold Street, Dig-In has firmly dug its heels in to become one of the best new cafés in the city. The Café is as cool as the building in which it find itself, settling in next to a barbershop and tattoo parlour. The café offers halloumi fries, scrambled tofu as well as a selection of coffee, tea and cakes, all keeping up with the healthy, vegan and veggie trend that is sweeping our city, country and the world. Pull up a seat by the window and watch the world go by on one of Liverpool’s coolest, busiest and best-loved shopping strips.

Veggie/Vegan Venue of the Month – Studio RAW

Studio RAW is an independent bakery that makes everything free from refined sugar, dairy and gluten, keeping everything raw, making everything that little bit healthier. But that’s not just it, the creations are as beautiful looking, as they are beautiful tasting. Place your order now, or check out their frequent collaborations with local eateries such as White Wolf Yoga & Kitchen, for whom they created raw magnums made out of cashews. These little treats are a great introduction to what these bakers do, but you’ll have to put in an order for a full cake, because…just look at them!

The food festivities never stop on Merseyside and they show no signs of slowing down as the summer approaches. Feel refreshed by Studio Raw, get out in the spring air at Food & Drink Fest and fill up your belly as Berry Street Kitchen.
