Bundobust turn Iceland slap on the wrist into food bank fundraiser
1 year ago
After receiving a strongly worded cease and desist from a national supermarket Bundobust have launched their “Spiceland Swap Shop” campaign. They’re offering free meal vouchers worth £35 between now and Christmas.
Indian Street Food restaurant and craft brewery Bundobust is launching a “Spiceland Swap Shop” at all venues from Thursday 14th December, exchanging Iceland gift cards for Bundobust meals.
Customers eating at Bundobust between 14 and 23 December are invited to bring an Iceland gift card with a value of £20 or more, and exchange it for a voucher for a free Combo or Vegan Combo for 2 worth £35, redeemable in January or February.
All Iceland gift cards will be donated to local Trussell Trust food banks by Bundobust.
The move was inspired by a recent exchange with Iceland Foods, in which the supermarket’s lawyers issued a strongly-worded cease & desist letter in response to a Bundobust social media post reimagining their Christmas specials menu as a “Spiceland Party Buffet”.
Marko Husak, co-founder of Bundobust, said:
“Bundo followers loved the original Spiceland post, and then the follow-up post mentioning the letter from Iceland’s lawyers got even more of a response, so we had a chat among the team about ways we could turn that momentum into something positive.
“And to show that there’s no hard feelings, we wanted to make sure Iceland were included as well – so buy a gift card from them, get a free Combo for 2 from Bundo, and local food banks receive the vouchers. Everyone’s a winner!”
