Cains Brewery Bitter wins Gold at SIBA North-West Independent Beer Awards

Cains Brewery took home the Gold in the Cask British Beer (up to 4.4%) category at the SIBA NW Independent Beer Awards, which took place at The University of Bolton Stadium late last week.

Cains Bitter is described as a dark and full-bodied beer which is refreshing and smooth. The flavours of the premium malt and hops deliver a superbly balanced product.

“Judges had a tough job separating the pack as the standard was extremely high once again. Lucky beer festival attendees at the Independent Beer Awards were able to try this and other award-winning beers immediately after the competition, something which is great for brewers too as they get to put their beers into the hands of real beer-lovers. The winners from the SIBA competition are officially the best independent craft beers in the Northwest region, something brewers should be extremely proud of.” Roy Allkin, SIBA Chairman.

The SIBA Independent Beer Awards judge a huge range of beers across a number of styles in separate cask and keg competitions. As the awards are judged mostly by brewers, industry experts and beer journalists the SIBA Independent Beer Awards are very much seen as the prestigious ‘Brewers’ choice Awards’ by the industry. Andy Hayes from Cains Brewery had this to say on their win.

‘Myself and my fellow brewers at Cains are delighted to receive this prestigious award. For this to come just 4 months after our first brew since the revival of Cains in June this year is just incredible. We have put our hearts and souls into bringing this famous brew back to life and we love what we have created. We used original recipes, the best quality hops and really did our research to bring the taste of Liverpool back where it belongs.’

Cains Brewery

Cains Brewery was founded in 1850 by Robert Cain, an Irishman, when he bought an established brewery. Cain had begun his brewing career aged 24 when he purchased a pub and brewed his own ales.

Andrew Mikhail, the man behind The Mikhail Group who brought Cains back to life this year with a multi-million-pound renovation of the original site where Robert Cain brewed the famous beers back in 1858, said of the award, ‘Cains beer is synonymous with Liverpool, I love the Cains brand. The beer they call ‘Liverpool in a pint’ has been missed by many since it disappeared from bars almost 10 years ago. I am thrilled that our Cains Bitter has already won its first award just months after our first brew. My team of brewers have excelled themselves and have done myself and the history of Cains proud. I’m certain that there are many more awards to come.’

Cains Brewery

The famous Liverpool brewery is expected to release some much-anticipated brews very soon including the Dark Mild brew with some short run seasonal specials making an appearance on selected bars across the region including the dark & intriguing Bonfire Toffee, expected to come back with a bang this Autumn.

Those interested in a behind the scenes look at Cains and the brewing team in action can now book a brewery tour enjoying a flight of Cains beers to taste the award-winning brew for yourself
