Chill and reset for summer with a sunset yoga session at Crosby Lakeside
45 seconds ago
Brand new sunset yoga sessions are starting at Crosby Lakeside this summer.
It’s the chance to relax, de-stress and unwind, while enjoying the amazing views from the rooftop of the popular marina’s Adventure Centre.
Yoga and Pilates teacher Christine Wylie will be combining an hour’s yoga with a sound bath experience which she hopes will leave people feeling ‘positive, confident, restored and re-centred’.
“It’s such an amazing venue and I just want people to make the most of that golden hour as the sun goes down, appreciating the beautiful blue skies and the warmth of the sun,” Christine says.
“It will be a magical experience.”
Mum-of-two Christine, 45, from Litherland, already holds classes across Merseyside, including at Liverpool Cathedral where she’s launched early riser Pilates with sound and breakfast in collaboration with the Welsford Bistro from next month.
And the sunset sessions at Crosby Lakeside are another new venture.
“I wanted to create an experience where people could connect to themselves in a different environment; being outdoors and connecting to nature,” she explains.

“You’re connecting to a beautiful space but you’re also surrounded by the elements, so you can smell the sea breeze, you can feel the warmth – hopefully – of the sun on your face and body. You can see the lovely scenery, the beach and the sand dunes, and hear the creaking of the boats on the water and the rustlings of the wildlife.
“It’s a full sensory experience.
“The rooftop has been turfed, so you can even take your shoes and socks off and press your feet down on the grass, which will immediately earth the body and settle down the nervous system.”
And Christine smiles: “For me yoga is not about trying to wrap your legs around your neck or doing all those power postures, it’s about connection and understanding your body a lot better, accepting what you’ve got and being able to connect to your mind, almost going into a meditative state while flowing with movement and breath.
“It’s combining movement, sound, breath and atmosphere and creating something that is memorable. The space is elevated, it’s not overlooked and it’s somewhere people can move about and be themselves and drop the ego, having no judgement or expectations and just be in the moment.
“Everything’s natural.”
Sessions begin on Thursday, June 25, and booking has just opened for around 25 people.

Each session will last for 90 minutes with 50-60 minutes of hatha yoga – a foundational branch of yoga focusing on aligning the body and mind through physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation to channel vital energy – followed by 30 minutes of sound bath where you can immerse yourself in sound waves and vibrations produced by crystal singing bowls.
“I love it when I can see and hear from people that they’re relaxed and calm, that they have a sense of harmony,” says Christine.
“I deliberately chose Thursdays for the sessions so that instead of people going into Friday with that sense of dread and that there’s one more day to go until the weekend, they can start the day feeling as balanced as they did on the Monday.
“The sessions are on the rooftop on the quiet side overlooking the adventure lakeside – it shares the roof top with The Lake House – so it will be peaceful and quiet.
“There are contingency plans should the weather not be kind so we can have the same atmosphere. But, hopefully the sun will shine and we can share a magical experience and enjoy sunset sessions which will leave everyone feeling as though they’ve pressed the re-set button, and as incredible as the venue.”
