Claire House helps seriously and terminally ill children make the most of the time they have however long or short that may be.

Claire House Children’s Hospice has announced a brand-new event, the Claire House Lantern Walk, starting at Eureka! Science + Discovery at Seacombe Ferry Terminal on Saturday 14th October.

The 2.5km walk finishes in New Brighton, and starts from 6.30pm as the sun sets. The route is accessible to all and everyone gets a lantern at the start, lit with an electric tea light.

Events Fundraiser, Mark Pearson, said:

“For 25 years, Claire House has been a light in the dark for so many local families. The Claire House Lantern Walk is the perfect opportunity for families and groups to walk together, light the way and walk in memory of a loved one.

“There aren’t many other charity lantern walks in the local area, so we hope that the community can come together and make this a really special event. The walk is for all ages and abilities and there’ll be entertainment along the way as people walk along the promenade.”

Claire House are working in partnership with Eureka! Science and Discovery, where all walkers will collect their lanterns at before they set off.

Mark Pearson, continued:

“We’re very grateful for the support of Eureka on this event. Claire House continues to look after more families than ever before and we simply wouldn’t exist without the support of the local community.  On the night we hope to raise £50,000 to fund our vital care, which is needed now more than ever.”

By providing specialist nursing and end of life care, as well as emotional support Claire House helps families through some of the toughest times of their lives.

Kerri Lewis, from Liverpool, is taking part with her family. Kerri said:

“We are doing the Lantern Walk for our daughter Ruby, who passed away 4 years ago. She loved staying at Claire House for respite. She had such a special bond with all the staff there, as did we. It was a big part of our lives, and we couldn’t have got through some of our toughest times, especially at the end, without the support from Claire House.

“Claire House remains a massive part of our life and we still get so much support from them. Claire House holds such a special place in our hearts and we owe so much to them. This is why we are doing the walk, to give back to one of the best places with the best staff.”
