Comedian who launched viral comedy show from his she stars at Salt and Tar Comedy Weekender
Scott Bennett

Rising stand-up comedy star Scott Bennett is excited about branching out and starring at the first ever Salt & Tar Comedy Weekender in Bootle over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

During the lockdown of 2020, Scott pioneered the viral hit, Stand up from the Shed, a weekly topical live streamed stand up podcast show from his actual garden shed. The show achieved national coverage on Sky News, BBC News and Five Live among others.

In the same year, in the Comics Comic Awards Scott was voted ‘Best Act’, a prestigious award decided by comedians and promoters in the industry.

The Salt & Tar Comedy Weekender in Bootle will be a great chance for people to see one of the brightest young comedians on the circuit.

The Yorkshire-born comedian is on a superb bill which also includes Jason Byrne and Jo Caulfield on Sunday, 28th May, hosted by Brendan Riley.

Other comedians performing at the festival over the Bank Holiday weekend include: Chris McCausland, Nina Gilligan, Patrick Monahan, Martin Bigpig Mor, and Steve Royle.

Tickets are now on sale at: bigcomedyuk.com

Scott Bennett said: “I am really looking forward to performing at the first ever Salt & Tar Comedy Weekender!

“It’s yet another Bank Holiday – we’re getting them every week now!

“I love the idea of being invited to become involved in a comedy festival just before it becomes massively successful, and then I’m not invited back again…”

Scott, who hails from Pontefract in West Yorkshire and now lives in Nottingham, is delighted to see audiences enjoying live comedy again after years of lockdown.

He said: “It is great to be out there performing live stand-up comedy again. I feel like we have had a strange few years.

“For anyone who’s not seen me perform before, I do a lot of observational comedy with a lot of shared experiences in there, where we can all have a laugh together.

“It will be a night of real escapism.

“Sefton Council, working with Brendan Riley and Val Brady, have done a brilliant job in making this event happen and I hope people come out and enjoy the shows taking place.

“I don’t think everyone appreciates just how different stand-up comedy is from seeing it on a TV screen to seeing it live and up close from the audience. It is so special when it is in the moment.

“It is that connection you get between a comedian and the people watching them that you just don’t enjoy in any other art form.”

A stellar line-up at the Salt & Tar Comedy Weekender in Bootle will see Chris McCausland, Patrick Monahan and Nina Gilligan star in the curtain-raising Comedy Night on Friday 26th May.

Saturday 27th May sees a Family Funday with Martin Bigpig Mor and Brendan Riley ahead of a Disco Bingo night hosted by Brendan Riley.

Sunday 28th May sees Steve Royle and Brendan Riley host a Family Funday ahead of a gig featuring Jason Byrne, Jo Caulfield and Scott Bennett with host Brendan Riley.

All the gigs will take place at Salt and Tar, Bootle’s brand-new events space.

The first Salt & Tar Comedy Weekender will take place at Salt & Tar in Bootle on 26th – 28th May 2023. Tickets can be purchased at bigcomedyuk.com
