EDITOR’S PICKS: 10 things you can do this weekend in Liverpool

Let’s face it, even in January, weekends are still best in Liverpool.

Whether you are looking for a boss brekky or a tasty tea, going out or going out out, looking for some culture or just fancy a stroll there’s always something going on.

It’s me Jay with some ideas on what you can get up to this weekend in the greatest city on the planet.

Each week I join Steve Hothersall on Radio City Talk to chat through what is going on in the city over the next 7 days, listen in below for some good news for dog lovers, my venue of the week and info on Liverpool’s unreal 2018 events calendar.

For Breakfast…

Pioneer, Crosby

The Pioneer turned 10 last year and when a local, independent, family run restaurant reaches a milestone like that you can’t help but smile. The Pioneer is great for all occasions with a delicious lunch and evening menu, but for me you can’t beat the pioneer Grande Breakfast. Complete with bacon, sirloin steak, Cumberland sausage, hash browns, Bury black pudding, mushroom, grilled tomato, baked beans, eggs & toast. Just make sure you get yourself for Crosby Beach for an hour long walk afterwards to burn it off. Lots more on offer too, including the healthier avocado on toast, veggie brekky or American pancakes with maple syrup.

Visit www.pioneercrosby.co.uk for the full menu and to book your table.

For Lunch…

Neon Jamon

I went for the above – pork ribs, tortilla, fillet steak and garden cheesy egg

If you have never tried Neon Jamon then I’d defo give it a go. Two sites now, the original on Smithdown Road/ Penny Lane, and the other on Berry Street. Authentic Spanish food presented beautifully with the likes of Gambas, Chorizo Lollipops and a new delicious Tortilla to tuck into.  I was there just yesterday and made up to see some new additions to the menu and much bigger portion sizes too. Plus Spanish beer and cocktails, need I say more!

Head to www.neonjamon.com to check out the full menu, bookings for over 6 or more taken.

For Dinner…

Fazenda, Exchange Flags

Myself & Claire Simmo

Earlier this week I was made up to host the Alder Hey, Blue Monday evening at Fazenda in Exchange Flags with my partner in crime, Claire Simmo. We raised over £17k for the ward-based chef programme and celebs in attendance included Strictly’s Shirley Ballas and Gymnast, Beth Tweddle. The boss thing about working on events like this is that you get treated to the delicious food on offer as well.

Fazenda uses the traditional Brazilian method of service – freshly-grilled meat , carved at your table until you show your red card. I was on green for about four hours! The Fazenda Journey starts at the salad bar, with traditional Brazilian dishes, fresh vegetables & cured meats. Then you simply flip your card from red to green and that signals the Passadores (Meat Chefs) to come over and carve away. The decor is classy and service is on point, the Brazilian beer & cocktails aren’t bad either.

Book your table and get more info here fazenda.co.uk/liverpool.

For a drink…

The Phil, Hope Street

We are spoiled for choice when it comes to proper stunning looking pubs in Liverpool. The Philharmonic Dining Rooms, or as we call it “The Phil”, is surely up there with the best, if not the. Get ready to be transported back into an early 1900’s music themed public house that was created to accommodate concert goers and musical masterminds alike, complete with its copper panels and mahogany and glass finish, a full range of cask ales, delicious pub grub and a playlist perfect for a liquid lunch, or an evening start off point before town.

For some culture…

Liverpool Museum

When was the last time you explored the Scouse treasure trove that is our Museum of Liverpool? A whole building dedicated to the thing we love most, our city. Situated on the Pier Head it is literally rammed full of artefacts, nostalgia, memories and a million new things to learn. Everything from how our city came to be, with the incredible Liverpool time line, the musicians that shaped the charts, and how we have embraced other cultures and communities and called them our own. It is completely free for all, and you could literally spend a full day exploring. Gift shop and cafe aren’t too shabby either.

Info on the Museum of Liverpool and our other incredible museums on the website here www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk

For a day out…

Knowsley Safari Park

Whether you’ve got kids or not there is always something to see at Knowsley Safari, and it’s not just all about the monkeys and their shiny bums. At the moment it’s only £15 per car for the full Safari experience in which you get to see the ostriches, rhinos, tigers, lions, wolves, the hilarious meerkats and lots more. The sea-lion show is well worth getting out of the car for and there are tonnes of rides for the kids and great food on offer too. Over 750 fascinating animals waiting to say hello this weekend.

More info and the full Safari route on the website here www.knowsleysafariexperience.co.uk

For a treat…

Delicious desserts hand delivered to your door with a smile. There’s even an 18+ menu which includes boozy milkshakes & alcoholic ice cream. To get active…

Liverpool Wake Park

Half term in liverpool

The thought of my lanky legs on a wake board doesn’t fill me with joy, however it’s defo something i’m going to push myself to do in 2018. Even just for the sheer hilarity factor for my mates. You can test your balance (and maybe your nerve) with wake boarding lessons for all ages at Liverpool Wake Park just by the Albert Dock. Think water skiing together with snow boarding and you have have wake boarding. All your kit and tuition can be provided, all you have to do is give it your best shot!

So there you go, a few ideas on what you could get up to this weekend in Liverpool. We have all sorts planned for next week on The Guide Liverpool including helping our mate Pete Price celebrate his Civic Honour of Liverpool award on Tuesday evening at the Town Hall. We are off to see the new Take That musical, The Band at the Empire and of course we countdown to pay weekend in our city!
