Enid Blyton’s much loved Malory Towers is heading to the Liverpool Playhouse this summer, bringing live music, nostalgia and familiar Everyman faces to the city stage.

Running from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 June, the stage adaptation of the classic boarding school books is co produced by the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and adapted by acclaimed theatre director Emma Rice.

The production marks the return of Everyman panto favourite Zoe West, who takes on the role of rebellious schoolgirl Bill Robinson, alongside Stephanie Hockley as Irene and musical director.

Liverpool audiences will already know Zoe from productions including Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella, while Stephanie previously appeared in Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood and Beauty and the Beast at the Everyman.

Joining them is a cast featuring Eden Barrie as Mary Lou Atkinson, Molly Cheesley as Alicia Johns, Rebecca Collingwood as Gwendolyn Lacey, Emily Panes as musician, Robyn Sinclair as Darrell Rivers and Bethany Wooding as Sally Hope.

Returning by popular demand after a successful 2019 tour, Malory Towers will make its Liverpool debut at the Playhouse and promises an uplifting story packed with friendship, fun and adventure.

Director Emma Rice said: “I am thrilled to be returning to Malory Towers. There is something exciting about a new class and a new term.

“We have done some fantastic new work on the design so it will feel like a box fresh new uniform. This production has the most virtuosic score and soundtrack and the close harmony songs will knock your socks off.

“I think we are all ready for some hope and some fun and this will feel like spring has finally come.”

The show also has strong Liverpool links behind the scenes, with set and costume design created by Liverpool born theatre designer Lez Brotherston, who began his career at the Playhouse Youth Theatre before going on to work with major productions across the UK.

Described as the original “girl power” story, Malory Towers is aimed at girls, boys and grown ups who still dream of midnight feasts and adventures by the Cornish coast.

Captioned and audio described performances will also be available during the run, with a special workshop for teachers, youth theatre leaders and educators taking place on Wednesday 17 June.

Malory Towers runs at Liverpool Playhouse from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 June, with tickets priced from £12 to £42.
