Channel 4’s latest thriller series, The Gathering, aired last night, and is already captivating audiences with its gripping storyline.

Set and filmed in Liverpool, The Gathering is already attracting rave reviews, and is another example of how our city is becoming a blockbuster itself within the Film and TV industry.

What’s it about?

The Gathering is ultimately a whodunnit – or, in this case – a-why-done it, after Kelly is attacked at an illicit rave.

Centred around a group of diverse teenagers and their families, each character harbours their own reasons for potentially harming Kelly, a talented gymnast on the National Team pathway.

With each episode, the story shifts to spotlight a different character, offering viewers a glimpse into their unique perspective and circumstances. As the story unfolds, you are invited to piece together clues and find out the identity of the perpetrator.

Who made it?

Produced by the masterminds behind Line of Duty, Save Me, and Vigil, this new series is set to captivate audiences with its intense plot and complex characters.

Penned by acclaimed novelist Helen Walsh in her television screenwriting debut, The Gathering introduces viewers to a diverse cast of characters, each with their own motives and secrets.

Who’s in it?

Newcomer Eva Morgan stars as Kelly, a working-class student who finds herself at the centre of a mysterious attack during an illicit rave on a tidal islet. 

Sadie Soverall plays Jessica, Kelly’s friend and elite gymnastics teammate, while Vinette Robinson and Warren Brown take on the roles of Jessica’s controlling mother Natalie and Kelly’s hardworking father Paul, respectively.

The ensemble cast also includes Richard Coyle, Sonny Walker, Ryan Quarmby, and newcomer Luca Kamleh-Chapman, each bringing their own unique flair to the series.

Where was it filmed?

Filmed in iconic locations across Liverpool, from Princes Docks to Gino D’Campo Sky Bar 360.

Liverpool’s World Museum and St John’s Gardens also feature prominently, alongside picturesque spots in Wirral such as West Kirby Park and Coronation Gardens.

When is it on?

It’s on now, the first episode premiered last night, May 14, at 9.00pm, on Channel 4 and will air weekly.

How many episodes will there be?

The series will consist of six episodes, airing weekly on Channel 4. However, for those eager to dive into the mystery right away, all episodes are available for streaming on Channel 4+ NOW.
