Exclusive preview concert showcases Eurovision Artists at Liverpool University Tung Auditorium

Eurovision artists from Lithuania, Georgia and Iceland will preview their songs in an exclusive concert at the University of Liverpool’s Tung Auditorium on Monday 8 May ahead of their performances in the finals.

Iru from Georgia, Diljá from Iceland and Monika Linkytė from Lithuania will perform exclusive versions of their hit Eurovision entries at The Tung Auditorium, along with other pop bangers.

It could be second time lucky for Monika Linkytė, as she had previously competed at Eurovision in 2015, this time bringing the song ‘Stay’. Iru from Georgia stormed through the finals of The Voice Georgia and will be singing ‘Echo’. Diljá burst onto the Icelandic music scene at the beginning of 2023 with her Söngvakeppnin (Iceland’s national final) entry ‘Power’.

Also performing at the concert will be Ukrainian singer Polina Hrechyshkina and contemporary dancer Iryna Kuts, both Culture and Art Centre staff members at the University of Liverpool’s partner university, Sumy State in Ukraine.

Tickets are on sale now for this event at the Tung Auditorium, the new a 400-seater concert hall which offers optimised acoustics in a comfortable environment, perfect for enjoying the Eurovision stars’ performances up close!

Richard Hartwell, The Tung Auditorium Artistic Director said “We are incredibly excited to be welcoming Iru, Diljá, Monika, Polina and Iryna here for this special concert whilst they’re in the city. The Tung auditorium has been a great space for a wide variety of artists including our students to showcase their music and that’s why we’re really pleased to present performers from our partner university in Ukraine.

“There’s been a buzz around campus and across Liverpool the last few weeks as excitement builds towards the big day and we are looking forward to sharing some of the Eurovision magic with our audience.

“If you haven’t been lucky enough to get Eurovision tickets so far then this is your chance to see an intimate preview performance in our fantastic acoustically-optimised venue!”

Tim Seamans, Director of External Relations at the University of Liverpool said: “As Liverpool is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine, it is important to us that we present Ukrainian talent at this event. Our connection with Sumy State University as our twin university in Ukraine involves working with them in a number of ways so that they’re able to continue their education, research and cultural activities, and we’re glad to be able to recognise that as part of this concert.

“We’re also proud to have a diverse student community, with students and alumni from more than 170 countries, so we’re fully embracing Eurovision and the important message of diversity and connection through music.”

This event is part of a programme from the University of Liverpool including a ‘United by Music’ festival in the renamed Abercromby Square ‘ABBAcromby Square’, promoting learning and celebrating culture. The Tung Auditorium is also hosting a free (pre-booking required) live screening of the grand final on its big screen on Saturday 13 May.
