Family of man killed in road collision in Seaforth pay tribute

The family of Martin Gregory, who sadly died in a fatal road traffic collision in Seaforth on Wednesday, have paid tribute to him.

In a short statement, Martin’s family said: “Martin was a loving Son, Brother, Uncle and Father. He always had a funny story to tell and had a mischievous sense of humour.

“Martin was devoted to his only child James, who he spent most weekends with. As a family we are devastated at losing Martin in such tragic circumstances and he will be greatly missed by us all.”

We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident. Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway of Princess Way at around 11.15pm on Wednesday and found a 43-year-old man who had been in collision with a heavy goods vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Force’s Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our sincere and thoughts and condolences are with Martin’s family who have been left devastated by this tragic incident. Our extensive enquiries continue and I am grateful for the members of the community who have helped us so far, as their input has been really important. I would like to reiterate our earlier request for anyone with information to keep coming forward as we try and establish what happened.

“My appeal is specifically to anyone who has dash camera CCTV fitted in their vehicle that may been travelling on Princess Way and surroundings roads at between 11pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday evening to make contact with the investigation team as you may have inadvertently captured the lead up to this incident.

“Our officers can recover CCTV in person or remotely to check if it has captured any footage that may assist the investigation of this collision.

“In addition if you have CCTV or doorbell footage on your home or business that could help, please get in touch. Your help, however insignificant it may seem, could be vital to us”.

A 52-year-old man from Skelmersdale who was arrested on Thursday afternoon has been interviewed by detectives and bailed pending further enquiries.

If you can assist with the above, please contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0151 777 5747 or email quoting reference 23000033762.
